Sorry, had to do that. Anyways, I completely agree with you. I see little reason why as soon as people press the login button their manners miraculously disappear.

Worst comment for me...hmm...

"I hope you die hippie commie" or something like that.

With the anonymity that people seem granted by the faceless beast, they can get away with it. Not having to deal with a live person is a great incentive to be a prick. Like most kids, if they can find a way to be a conniving little prick and get away with it, they will.

Doesn't life suck?

Because their moms won't read it. That's pretty much the answer right there. Also, it's easy on the internet because nobody can punch you and there isn't a face... just words.

I've taken too many insults to really be able to tell you the worst one.

Meet the internet fucktard theory: Regular Person + Total Anomity + Audience = Total Fucktard.

People can get away with it, that's why they're rude.
Good point, I agree.

Anonymity means freedom in this case. Freedom brings out the worst of the idiots.

The only two ridiculous insults I can remember right now are:

-Getting called a fag for liking books.
-Getting called a "flag noob" for winning for our team at a match of CTF. The insulter in question was spawn-camping with rockets, and thought I was hacking for killing him repeatedly.

That is actually against the rules.
Do not do it.

Much as I disagree with you, you're already on probation - no need to turn it into a suspension.

Anyway, I've long since stopped caring (or remembering) any insults lobbed my way.

You can only be called a "****** assfag"* so many times and reply with "I am neither black nor gay, but you are a waste of genetic material" before you just get bored.

*Yes, I have been called that before. Numerous times. It's fucking baffling.
He did add to the discussion besides just saying first. But yes, the internet fuckwad theory is in effect here.

People are angels in Public and dicks in private. You just gotta develop a flame (knife, bullet etc) retardant layer of skin.

While the movie was little more than boobs and violence one of my favorite quotes from film comes from "Hollow Man":

"It's amazing what you can do when you don't have to see yourself in the mirror anymore."

Once there is no physical attachment to your actions people tend to act much more free.

However if you think about it the internet doesn't have any more idiots than real life. There are 6+ billion people and of them we'll just throw out a number and say 500 million are on the internet (I'm sure that's really low but its just for the example). Now have you even had 1 million people act like assholes to you on the internet?

No you've likely had maybe a few hundred or thousand. A pittance. It's just that normal people are too busy enjoying themselves or having intelligent conversations with one another to be flaming.

People tend to forget about all the good experiences and live off the bad.

The worst comment I've received was a fella telling me he was going to find me and murder me. Why? Well interestingly enough it was because I didn't like his banter on a general chat in wow and I put him on ignore. Didn't mention it to him or bash him or anything he just happened to find out when he tried to talk to me in the zone. He logged onto another character and told me I'd be found and stabbed and that I should hide in a cave.

However that's the only time I've ever so much as been bashed on there. Once you turn off trade chat the game becomes a land full of daisies and mass entertainment. I noticed that while trade chat looked like a racist hate fest it really was just 5-10 people every hour or so. The same guys each day for those hours rotating with one another as they had to go to work, school, or sleep :p. Not bad when you consider the population.

Well simple theory really: people are dicks. I myself am included. I'm not outwardly insullting or offensive, but I wont restrain my thoughts to be "polite" in most cases on or off the internet. And it's true the large demographic of unintelligent forum-goers are between the ages of nine and twelve.

I think everyone wants to try it at least once. And yes, I did contribute instead of just being a dipshit.

They call that the mean world hypothesis. Essentially people have the (incorrect) belief that most people are evil by default. A fantastically small proportion of the world is like that however they are the ones that receive the most attention seeing as their activities are out of the ordinary.

I know, I know I just like being the pessimest. Also being the strange kind of person I am, people regularly insult and otherwise try to offend me quite frequently, so I notice it more than some people.
