Sure I have, French. I also have a third one, English. And a fourth one, Latin. My first language? Why, that's German.

And no, that's not impressive at all, you have to understand that outside of the English speaking world, learning a third language (besides English) is pretty much mandatory. I for one know not a single German under the age of forty who doesn't at least speak three languages.

Germans would probably understand me too cause Dutch is a Germanian language.
It is, but that only means that some of the words sound alike. Trust me, it's not enough to actually understand anything.

My first language is Russian. Knowledge of which is quickly disintegrating, at least in regards to more complex written stuff - Russian grammar is a ***** compared to something as easy as English or Spanish.

Second language, naturally, English.

And I could speak French and Spanish a few years ago, but that mostly deteriorated into nothing by now. Might try to re-learn French this summer =/

I was born and grew up in the US speaking English.

I was raised around Italians, and picked up some of the language.

I have taught myself German.

I am in the process of learning French.

My gf's mom has taught me some Arabic. Her grandad was in oil in the Gulf years back, so she taught me quite a bit. I'd like to learn several languages though.

I've tried to pronounce a few Russian words, but they are VERY hard to say for me. I can only say "Goodbye" and "Thank you."

English is my second language (I'm Dutch)and I speak a bit of German but it's easily getting rusty. I'm trying to teach myself some Japanese.
I can read French just fine as if I know what I'm saying, but I don't... This goes for every language I see or hear. Well, except the ones I know.

I have a good concept of written French. Don't ask me to understand what someone is saying when they speak though, as I'm terrible at listening to it. >_>

If you speak slowly and you meet Germans who live close to the Eastern border they might understand you. If you speak in dialect they might think you are German.

Here in Belgium, we have three national languages: Dutch, French and German.
I was raised in Dutch, but I also speak French and some German, and of course English.

It is very ordinary for a Belgian to speak at least 3 languages.

Phonetics aren't just used in the army, Amateur radio hobbists use them too, I learnt them at about nine when I started a course on it.

Other than that I tried French, tried German, tried Latin, trying Japanese. Doubt I'll get far.

As someone with a very authentic Russian first name and surname, I'm extremely familiar with that problem...

The more I grow up, the more I actually appreciate Russian language. With all the complicated tenses and word endings, and strange letters in the alphabet that have no sound. It's nothing short of awesome.

ъ or ь, for example.
