For me games have strengthened relationships with friends and family, games have helped me through times of loneliness (As sad as that sounds), games have helped me to relieve stress, boost brain power and generally relax.

Oh how I love my video-games.

Games helped me figure out that there will never be a truly original storyline ever again.

Video games are definitely my way of winding down. With my stress levels getting so high sometimes, it's great to sit down with an amazing game and just relax. It has helped me out on more occasions than I can count.

I like to use games to blow off some steam, sure. It's a nice relaxing hobby. This is actually pretty much exclusively how I play games; if I'm not feeling stressed, I tend to have other things that I entertain myself with.

Things such as "original" storylines haven't existed since the Rennaisance (to some extent)
The ratio to imagination : people in world is too small for originality to exist again.

But back to topic.

As everyone else says, gaming lets me blow off steam, relax. The only other time I play games otehr than when stressed is if its a dark, rainy afternoon in England, can't be bothered to freeze in London or get smashed.. so just chill the afternoon away with a nice cuppa tea and my 360, with a blanket. Win. Me happy. Life good.

Oh, also have to add that it brought me and my 28 year old brother whole I have an 8 and a half year difference in age with together. He's probably my best friend because we've really bonded over the years, whether it was NHL(insert years here =P) or an FPS that I'd send him crying for mercy after playing, they have definitely been the biggest contributor to our bonding.
