It seems to me that now more people are getting gaming rigs. It seemed like last year that most people were satisfied with consoles, but I see more and more people talking about how they want to switch to PC, Or upgrade their existing one.
I've also seen it not just on the internet but around my school too.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Hobbies grow up. I was just remarking how I thought consoles were neat, in the 1980's.

The generation is coming to an end, so PCs that can run 7th gen games are naturally cheaper than they were when Crysis came out or whatever. Very simple.

This always starts happening near the end of a console cycle. Watch and when the next PS and Xbox or whatever come out the PC will dip into the shadows once again. But for now, well, good time to be a PC gamer.

PC is by far the best platform. You have more keys at your disposal, as well as the whole internet, older games, an infinitely wider selection of indie games, mods, the ability to mod games, much better textures ... it's just a much better platform. :D I'm glad more people are coming to the PC. Yes, it costs more, especially for a good rig, but it sure does pay off when you first step out of Vault 101 with full AA, AF and everything at maximum, playing on a 1600x900 monitor ... and it isn't even a "beautiful" game by today's standards!

I've recently gotten my PC minimally upgraded ... well, minimally in the sense of what's currently cutting edge. A 3.0Ghz dual core CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a GT 250 isn't much, but compared to the single core 1.5Ghz CPU, 1.5GB of DDR RAM and GeForce 6600GT machine I had been playing up until this past Friday, it's a huge jump ... and I am loving it much more than if I had decided to spend less and get an XBOX 360 or PS3! :D

On that note, if you guys could help me, I'm thinking about getting Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad on Steam. How is it? Is it worth the $39.99 price tag?

Yeah, it has been a good year for pc gaming. Some big names are back, and it certainly isn't dead anymore.
It never was dead. PC Gaming has always been alive to one extent or another. :)

We're at a time where consoles are not longer as impressive and as much bang for the buck as they once were. You can get a computer that's more powerful than the PlayStation 3 for less than the price right now. And people that used to only feel like they could afford one console, have had plenty of time to buy all of them. Meaning that a lot of people now own all three, and have had plenty of time to look into a gaming PC.

Basically, a longer version of what Phlakes just said. I was beaten to the punch. The main reason to get a console is exclusives(all of the exclusives I actually care about are for consoles, things such as Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros., Fatal Frame, Tales of Vesperia/Xillia, consoles get all of the best exclusives in my opinion), but again, most people have their console fix by now.

For instance, I myself am an example of this. I would never build a gaming computer until I have all the latest consoles. On the other hand, I do, own all the consoles. Because I've had plenty of time to grab them.

Eh. A computer is more practical than a console to begin with. The fact that it just so happens to be powerful enough to run games is a bonus.

Plus nowadays buying a PC game usually entitles you to the digital copy as well. Not a terribly big incentive for someone who maintains their discs, but it's still something.

Nope.
The best platform is the one you have the most fun on.

That being said, I, personally, find computers more convenient than consoles, mainly because if I'm not sleeping, I'm in the studio, and I'm more likely to game as a break here than walk all the way back home in freezing rain to play things.

And your point is what? Is this just another goddamn thread about the console PC war bullshit? Because that shit was old when it had existed for 30 seconds.

I guess it was inevitable for me, as i like to recline alot and i cant really recline in a chair getting the ever loving shit beaten out of me by Dark Souls as well as i could on my bed while getting the ever loving shit beaten out of me by DMC3 on my laptop.

And i was always a fan of RTS games, and we all know that RTS games only really exist on PC.

Now that i think about it the biggest single draw for my switch to PC gaming was the prices, Steam regularly offers me various PC titles that are at least 25% cheaper than thier console equivalents, and are usually every bit as good too.

Oh, and Team Fortress 2. That also played a huge role.

If you read the OP you'd realise he said nothing about the console war.

OT: I've noticed that too, in fact I've been playing on my PC far more than I have my PS3 lately also.

I would agree. At least to a fair degree.

While I do agree that PC has some technical, undeniable advantages over consoles. For instance, just the plain variety and versatility. On the other hand, computers have BSoDs(and don't use "I've never gotten a BSoD/I don't have computer problems as a rebuttal, it's not)

On the other hand, that versatility isn't everything. And if you're judging what's good for modern games, that all comes down to what games you want to play. There's a lot of games exclusive to each format. For instance, Nintendo fans, should of course go for the Wii first. There's nothing wrong with a preference for Nintendo games. If you like jRPGs and don't know Japanese, your best choice would either be the XBOX360 or PlayStation 3, I personally recommend the XBOX360 for jRPGs. Because for the PC all you're going to get is stuff like Last Remnant. If you like scrolling shooters, new scrolling shooters, then the XBOX360 wins in that field. Loads of STGs not for Windows have come to the XBOX360. First Person Shooters? Obviously the PC.

My favourite system is honestly, the XBOX 360. It has the most of the jRPGs and STGs I care about. Sony only has a few things like Disgaea games. And second place would come the Nintendo Wii, just for the very mere fact it has Nintendo games. Sure, the Nintendo Wii can be emulated, and that means 1080p, video capturing, and so forth. But it's not perfect emulation yet, by far. And it's relaxing knowing that everything will go perfectly, if in only 480p.

Honestly, most of the advantages of PC gaming is emulation. Without it, it has a significantly smaller library. And emulation is dubious legality, and most companies don't like it, even technically legal emulation.

I have a gaming PC and a PS3, and I tend to do more gaming on my PC, wheras I use my PS3 as more of a media device. Oh, and it also has Demon's Souls.

Since I don't post much, I actually remember a thread from a few months ago where you were upset at the "elitism" regarding The Witcher 2 and I specifically remember telling you that generally the "PC elitists" didn't exist until those on the console side decided to make it personal first and declare war.

...And there you go being the first poster to decide that this thread exclusively about PCs is actually a PC vs console war. Like I tried to tell you months ago, it's you who creates these issues. Stop being so damn pessimistic and most of those horrible PC fanboys will disappear because you'll have stopped creating them as an arbitrary target to channel hatred.

Maybe you never read my post back then, maybe you forgot about it, or more likely you just never believed it. Still a bit disappointing though.

More on topic: I think the biggest rise in PC popularity this year is due to Portal 2, The Witcher 2, Battlefield 3, and Skyrim. Though the fact that hardware prices have dropped and consoles haven't gone much of anywhere probably played a big role too.

I still prefer to game on my consoles, but recently I have started to buy multi-platforms games that have customisation for my PC... to take screenshots.

And what was your point? To contribute to the discussion? Obviously not.
