I still watch it every week. The only problem is that I don't care much about the games he's reviewing. I look forward to reviews for games I'm genuinely curious about playing, or look god awful.
I'm not sure it has so much to do with him, however, as nothing that has come out lately has interested me.

I still watch it, and I still find it entertaining, but I can see people grwing bored with it eventually. Same thing happened with me and the Nostalgia Critic towards the end (before Too Boldly Flee). There's only soo long that the Clever-Idea-Ball can keep on rolling once you shove it off of Mount Inspiration, but sooner or later it'll get stuck in the Swamps of Staleness.

Been watching it since probably over a year before I joined the site...and I still absolutely love it to bits. I don't comment so much, but that's probably because I don't watch straight after they come out on Wednesdays, rather after I've already sunk a few hours into the game he's reviewed. Because I find it funnier to laugh at what he's raging about when I know exactly *what* he's talking about, rather than speculating. And of course I don't treat his opinion as anything to go by when I decide to buy a game or not, I will rather watch a different review, or even Let's Plays, before putting money down on anything.

All in all though, I doubt I could ever get sick of it, because although the tone and his tastes are somewhat predictable and in a pattern, his creativity and writing just make me crack a smile every time.

I think it's not so much people getting bored with ZP, more the growing realization that commenting beyond the first 50 is really becoming pointless. I rememberfrom a few years ago when a good-ish topic could easily land you 500 comments. Now, you need to have a fantastic topic with so much discussion value and social meaning that nobody could get around it to get that same number. What I'm trying to illustrate is that people just don't care anymore. Or at least, not enough to keep up those giant topic discussions.

The problem with Yahtzee is that nowadays he's mostly just kicking in open doors.
His main attraction came from sawing extremely popular games off at the ankles with spot on criticism and a unique style. That doesn't really happen anymore, and you can almost always predict what he's going to say before even clicking on the video. I still find it entertaining though.

I still like watching zero punctuation. But I was curious as to its declining popularity, so I used Google Trends to track the search interest of the term "Zero Punctuation" See for yourself. http://i.imgur.com/CFBoGrc.png

It's not a perfect measure of the show's popularity, but as far as I know the Escapist has never revealed their total view count for their videos.

The popularity of searching for the term declining means virtually nothing. I used to google to get to his page, but now I bookmarked Escapist and am subbed to their YouTube. So I don't Google it anymore. I think the majority of people willing to watch it have already found it.

I watch ZP but never really commentated.
Still like him and the fast rambling.
You can find comments in a few of his pieces by me but most often not since I don't mind arguing against something which even the creator doesn't actually mean. He takes small faults and makes them big, that's been his thing for years now.

It'd be nice to see him take a break from ZP to see his extra punctuation articles made into rant style videos a la Big Picture or Jimquisition.

I still watch it, but not quite as often as I used to. I still gets a smile or an occasional chuckle out of me, but honestly, I stopped finding it hilarious about 2 years ago. Not that it's bad.... it's just that I am used to Yahtzee's humour and delivery style.

ZP still has some intelligent, interesting things to say about games. Yahtzee may not always be fair, but usually his criticisms have something to them. I also watch for the rare occasions he actually enthusiastically likes a game (like XCOM: Enemy Unknown), because if HE likes a game, chances are I will too (although I do have to say that I brought No More Heroes on his recommendation and didn't end up enjoying it at all).

Everything ultimately grows stale.

Yahtzee's been doing this weekly for years now... It's no surprise the bloom is off the roses.

I remember those early days when the first 4 or 5 comments under every new episode got a warning.
You were saying...

Oh, yes the good old days. ^_^

He rarely does games I have any interest in. When he starts ripping the new Mario a new one, I'll watch, laugh, and then play the new Mario with a joyful glee.
But most of the games he does I don't know, don't care about, and won't play anyway. What's the point of watching a review for that?

But that's just me, though. I can't imagine this goes for most gamers.

No, this isn't some flame thread or a blind rant about hating Yatzee or ZP, I love them both.

I have just finished a ZP marathon, starting at the first episode (yes including the youtube ones) and watching every episode until the latest. One thing really stood out, the comment numbers.

For earlier episodes he was averaging around 200 comments on each video, in the middle up in the dizzying heights or around 400 per episode, now it's barely 100.

So what happened, did people get bored of ZP? Did people keep watching but not commenting? Did the people stupid enough to post in the first 8 comments well before they could have possibly watch the video finally run out against the banhammer?

Also once again not a hate thread, nor a petrol dowsed thread ready for the spark that creates the flame war.
uhh...maybe it was the same income of comments but the old ones have been gaining them for years maybe?

I still love it. Wednesdays are often the highlight of my week, at least partly because of that. But I have a really weird boredom threshold, so I don't get bored by some things, but other things people get totally engrossed in bore me to tears instantly.

Are there ZP episodes that aren't hosted on the Escapist I should check out?
Only a couple. I started following Yahtzee way back in the days of "7 Days a Skeptic", before "Trilby's Notes" (I think, definitely before "6 Days a Sacrifice").

Then I looked over his blog, his webcomics (even if he doesn't like them, I still think some are quite good), and then he started doing these review videos. Really quickly, he got snapped up by some gaming site (and he seemed to be the only decent thing there for quite a while).

...

Anyway, IMHO, either Yahtzee has gotten stale, or I've grown out of him. Still some good stuff sometimes, but mostly not nearly as good as previously.

His new stuff is pretty boring, its just not entertaining at all.
I used to think I was just tired of him but when I went back to watch his older stuff I felt there was a certain charm to them, newer ones feel predictable and uninteresting, maybe Yahtzee lost his steam and got tired of the gig.

I used to come here only for him, but now Jim Sterling became the star of the site.

And before any more people say "well the joke can't hold up forever", you're WRONG, because I have seen his first ~200 videos at least FIVE TIMES (yes, each and every single one) and still laughing my ass off! I haven't even played 80-90% of the stuff the man has reviewed and I still find myself giggling like a schoolgirl at his Final Fantasy XIII or Mercenaries 2 reviews, and countless others.

If "the joke" was really getting old then I wouldn't be so damn addicted to his old videos and keep losing interest when watching his newer stuff.

Am I weird?
Your not.
As I said, I've felt the same thing while when going back to the older stuff.
Yahtzee doesn't seem to be into it as he used be.

I've gotten very tired of it. His relentless cynicism is a very depressing thing, and I don't find him to be a very good critic. I used to watch because I thought it was funny, but it's just not my thing anymore.

He's only as good as his source material, it comes with the territory.

Also he's been doing a weekly show since, what, 2008? What has been else has been going weekly for five years and maintained a consistent quality?

I still like ZP because I like him, not necessarily his methods. Could do with not being weekly, though.
