I do not understand how anyone can justify this. To me, this is just unacceptable and I am ashamed that I am a member of the same species as people who could do such a thing. I'm sure you can infer that I am not pro-life, and have often joked of raising the abortion age cutoff to 18 years of age, but this kind of conduct is so appalling to me, regardless of your stance on abortion. The fact that Operation Rescue say that they deplore this event, and yet list abortion providers by name on their website and paint them as murderers, is astonishing to me. How can you claim no responsibility when you're practically handing a hit list to any radical nutjob with a gun and a chip on their shoulder? And I swear to god I've seen this whole 'list' issue brought up in a very old Law and Order episode where the exact same thing happened. I just...don't understand.

I wanted to hear your thoughts, and please correct me if anything written above is inaccurate/blatantly wrong.

Yea, that's just wrong. You don't shoot anyone anywhere, let alone a Church.

That's my opinion without getting bogged down by "Is abortion right?" and all that crap.

He was shot by pro-life extremists... I don't think you can get any more ironic.
That... is an amazing point. It really does sound like the most ironic thing ever.

Actually no, I cannot. In fact I am surprised to even see this post. Of COURSE this was some religious nut from the south. It always is with you Americans.

Wasn't the last guy who did this sort of thing (he sniped them if i remember correctly, 5-10 yrs ago now) some crazy baptist?

Now what has occurred here is horrible, but there have been much worse atrocities. I don't think it's time to be "ashamed that I am a member of the same species" (quote from OP)

You know what? Killing children is for the greater good, at this point and time saves resources for those who already live.

I'm not trying to start a firestorm of that nature, I'm frankly just mortified that such a thing is considered a legitimate form of protest. I'd also just like to post an excerpt from the article.

"Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion, making him a favored target of anti-abortion protesters. He testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 "Summer of Mercy" protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993."

All i can say is those doctors now have a REASON to be paranoid
They're actually sending US Marshals out to protect them and their clinics. It's ridiculous that this has become a necessary measure.

its totally stupid. there was no reason for this at all. i know America is a very Christian country, but still everyone has a right to choose if they follow it or not.

He was shot in a church. Now I'm assuming this is a Christian or Catholic church, because I'm prejudiced. It's EXTREMELY hard not to kick religion in the 'nads at the moment, because I thought it was all about peace. But, that's not the problem, so we will refrain (being mature,as kraken mentioned). It's modern ignorance, not age-old messages of tolerance that caused this. People started being stupid around the time the internet was invented, and it's escalating to ridiculous levels.

You're right. People....stupid....irony....words can't express it.

Since when is MURDER a form of protest? This is what makes me worry about the world. Not that he was shot, that they were allowed to shoot him.

Apparently.

First of all, it doesn't even say that the person who killed him was a religious nut. It gives little detail about the person that killed him. Don't jump to conclusions.

Secondly, you can't blame religion for the actions of one psychopath. It's not religions fault that this man decided to kill George Tiller. If a man who believe in natural selection shot a priest, do we blame Charles Darwin?

How did you come to that conclusion?

It was a foolish, tragic act of extremism that will sadly now undermine the mostly peaceful pro-life protests that have gone on for decades now, but nobody has come forward and condoned it.
