My Runescape account was hacked, they stole 100 gold and 20 cooked fish. But left my 5 cooked swordfish, my weapons + armor, and my total of 12,000 gold.

This may be before the times of many of the posters here, but I used to be the sysop (along with a few others in the team) of a relatively large game-hosting BBS. The kind where you would connect with a dial-up modem and play Legend of the Red Dragon, Galactic Empires, TradeWars, and other MMO precursor games.

Anyways, one day an *extremely* skilled hacker(s) quickly broke through our admittedly amateur security... You can get your WoW account hacked, but there is some recourse and a good chance you can get your characters back. That hacker deleted 800 "characters" in 5 min - our regular visitors were not happy. Thankfully we ran a free BBS, there probably would have been lynch mobs if it was pay to play.

Not once, and I played WoW for maybe 4 years. I personally don't understand how it happens to people. Common sense got me 4 years without being phished and I suspect it would get me even more.

OT: I had my WoW account hacked once by some moron. It was 3 days after I started playing and I only lost a level 7 Dwarf who I was gonna delete anyway.

i was hacked once, it was through steam, then he hacked my email. but steam was so nice to have the service of replying without a bot

Nope. I don't give out my password (and it's not easy to guess,) I don't install crapware(game related crapware is, as a general rule, full of malware,) and I have an AV program running at all times, just in case.

Anyway, yeah. Have you been hacked before? I say this because my WoW account recently (Today) got hacked. Every single one of my characters, including my main, which I'd poured months of total time into, got deleted.

Same, but, as it turned out, first hack isn't so bad, Blizz works reasonably fast and I got my account back in no time. Plus, I ended up with some extra gold than before because of all the ores the hacker got mining while he had my account.

Though, Blizz's email was basically: We fixed your mess. Don't let happen again, capice?

And it was my mess really, since at the time I'd been using the same password for both my gmail account -and- my Battlenet account. Let that be a lesson, oh, and buy an authenticator too, it's worth it, seriously.

Absolutely true! Should have stayed on top of it. The moral of the story: if your co-sysop is a budding boozer, best to take over backup responsibilities yourself.

Yea, my blizzard account was hacked recently, I believe. Granted, I havent played WoW in months, and hardly made any progress. Regardless, my account with blizzard has been the only account on the internet that Ive had hacked, and on that note, I most likely never going back to anything battle.net.

Happened to me with my WoW account

My 2 lvl 80s were nacked, one of them was now on another realm and the guild bank i was sharing with a friend got ripped of a lot of precious stuff along with 30k gold ( good thing i wasnt the guild leader with illimited gold withdrawal, could only withdraw a bit more than my own gold in the bank)

Got everything back a couple days later

"Hacked" = someone guessing your password

In wow, they'd have to guess both your username and password, so that may get a little difficult. It's more likely a keylogger or Trojan downloaded onto your computer.

Exactly what happened to me. Just got the email 10 minutes after I made the thread. Apparently I got Trojan'd or Keylogged, and then the shit hit the fan.

One day after I renewed my account after a 1 year Hiatus, no less.

I cannot say I ever have. I don't give out my information and I don't download hacks and the like, so I never give myself keyloggers or trojans that give out my info. I like to be safe.
