Have you been hacked?

Today was the first time that I have ever been hacked on an online game, the game was Maplestory in which getting hacked is very common. Instead of taking my items like normal hackers they decided to delete my characters. To add insult to injury they even made a video.

My question to you guys, partly to make me feel better is have you ever been hacked on a online game and if so, what did you lose?

But there was a time when I (unwittingly) entered a hacked lobby on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 online multiplayer and had all of my challenges reset. This was particularly frustrating because at the time I was trying to complete all the challenges and suddenly all of my weapon attachments and camouflages were gone. It's not the same as being hacked in a MMORPG and having your entire inventory pawned off, but it was pretty shocking for me at the time.

When I played WoW, I was so paranoid about getting hacked I pretty much never went to any sites that I had even the slightest suspicion of. I also used a unique e-mail account for my WoW account that I never logged into (and my e-mail was the username I logged into the game with). It got to a point where i'd refuse to go to almost any links that were sent to me, even if they came from friends. But... if you knew what was on my WoW account, you would know why I was so worried about getting hacked.

Although I quit WoW well over a year ago, those patterns of cautiousness haven't really changed all that much.

Not my account, but my hubbies account for WoW got hacked 3 times. He always got his stuff back and got to keep all the mining stuff they collected. All in all it really wasn't that bad. I can't remember how much gold we got out of the stuff but it was enough to buy our flying mounts with a little left over.

My World of Warcraft account was hacked twice. The first time, the guy who hacked it mined a truckload of ores and when I got my account back I also got all the ores he mined and I ended up making about 10k from selling all the shit he gathered. The second time I was hacked I got two free months of game time because the moron attached a game card to my account.

Never, on a website or an online game. I don't play online games much anymore either.

I always used a good, strong password and never shared it with anyone, and never fell for any silly phisher.

I think my old runescape account got hacked (i thourght I forgot my password so I had too request acces...which surprisingly worked)

My corpy got hacked in EVE, some seriously bad stuff, was a long time ago, i think they deleted him
I've gotten many ''your account will be closed if you do not log in on this page'' emails, which are surprisingly convincing, it was difficult for me to decide to ignore them
I always use 20 symbol passwords which i change every time i can remember them

I think my WOW and now my Battlenet account is hacked, mainly because I keep getting emails and passwords and I have to change my password manually every so often which means I have to wait slightly longer to play ST2

My WoW account got hacked a while back. It's kind of funny, it happened when I wasn't playing it at the time and my friend who was on skype with me at the time logged in when he decided to start playing again.
He said to me "Wait, are you playing WoW right now?"
I said "No?"
He said "Well, your logged in right now!"
So I tried logging in and my password wouldn't work. I got it back pretty easily though just doing the account recovery procedure and I also got all the things taken from me returned. Also, I got about 2 free weeks of play because whoever got my account had to pay to reactivate it.

All in all really, I came out better off!

Anyway, I feel for you. That really sucks. I don't really play online that much, so I haven't been hacked in a game. However, a while back GMail informed me that someone from Poland had logged into my account (I live in the Netherlands). I'm very happy that he doesn't appear to have done any damage, because he could really have wreaked havoc on me there...

I also created a website as a teenager that me and some of my friends still use, and it has gotten hacked a couple of times, and the hacker put up some annoying page saying I got owned or something like that. I was able to track the hacker back to some bragging forum from Azerbeidjan or Armenia (don't remember now).

I don't really understand both times I got hacked, because for my GMail I have a pretty secure password that I don't use anywhere else, and only me and my friends know about my extremely low-profile website.

Yes, I have been hacked, sucks doesn't it? My WoW account was hacked last year, they took around 68K gold and deleted/vendored all my gear. I got it all back but I was still pretty pissed.

I've had my oooooooooooldwhenIusedtogiveashitaboutit WoW account hacked, my guild wars account, PayPal and Amazon accounts hacked.

I guess you just have to fire off an email and wait for the company to do something, which they did. Except for blizzard, after my account was hacked I just uninstalled the game and cancelled my sub when I got round to it.

Have you attempted back-tracing them? It can be quite successful if you have a tech-savvy friend...when xkcd & smbc got hacked, they wreaked terrible vengeance upon the hackers.

OT: haven't really been hacked on anything worthwhile (runescape ages ago).

I got hacked really bad once made the mistake of checking my email in a hotel lobby. There was a keylogger on that comp and they used my email to request new passwords for a bunch of different things.

To prevent most hacking atempts you can run addons like noscript for firefox.

so i deleted it.

i have no idea if my WoW etc got hacked (but if it did, doesnt matter. i'm out of game-time).
