I don't recall dying in Ocarina of Time ever (that doesn't count revives by Fairy), or losing any missions in any Advance Wars games; sure I may have quit and restarted the maps, but that was to save me time because I messed something up, or because I was running out of time.
I know I never died in Wind Waker or Twilight Princess. 4 Swords also had a really awesome fairy revival system, so I never really died in that.
I never really care about getting through a game without dying, unless its for an achievement/score/etc.
If I do something stupid or reckless, I should be rewarded with death.
Besides that, I get better at games when I learn from my mistakes. And dying usually forces me to think about how I can do better.
