I haven't ever been hit with the banhammer, but I've seen some ridiculous crap that makes me reluctant to stay on this site due to petty, uptight moderators and bans that seem completely stupid. This thread comes to the top of my head though this is by no means the only incident or even the most pathetic: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.175608-Editors-Note-The-Spy-Who-Fragged-Me

Edit: I'm going to find it seriously ironic if people are banned for posts in this thread. :p

Never been probed or anything, but I was said something that I feel deserved it. Some guy posted a video about Uncharted 2, and it was a rap about it. I don't like rap (except for Rap-rock), and I said "EEEW, rap, you should warn me next time". Partly it was wanting to fit in with the rap haters and partly because I was in a bad mood.

I later watched the video fully, and it was really good! I still feel horrible though...

And once, on GameFAQS, I dared to not cover up one letter of a swear word, in a topic about swear words, and got moderated. (I typed f%&*). Some guy replied to me, and said my mother was a whore. Nothing happened to him.

Fuck you, GameFAQS, fuck you.

Never suspended from this site or school, I'm a good boy, and I went through all of the rules when I joined the sight. It took me awhile and I can't remember much of it. The general jist of it I got was be nice.
Wouldn't it be ironic if someone got suspended/probation from what they posted on this thread?

I got banned rather unfairly once for saying that someone sounded like a boring nerd after he posted a huuuuge long winded pointless post on how much he hated Rihanna.

I had plenty of intelligent discussion value there too, I think I just incurred further nerd wrath by standing up to the hate-circle-jerk

Here's another moderation (a suspension) that I consider fairly pathetic: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.202851-Question-of-the-Day-June-18-2010#6765370

Zero infrictions. If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all.
Ah, but what you consider something good to say, others don't. This applies in real life as well as forums. Sometimes (though fortunately not commonly), in order to get anywhere, you need to be a bit of a git.

Yeah, I'd totally do the same thing, but I would be unrepentant. :p
Why would you feel bad though, that sounds like an extremely harmless comment, just a general statement about how you don't like rap. Click on one of the threads around here about "Your favourite music genre" and you'll see how it is when it's actually ugly.

That's the stupidest moderating I've ever heard.
You should have said to the mods "gee, I guess you can't say "fart" here, huh?"

OT: Nope, I'm a good boy. I got one warning here, but that was it.

If there is a reason other than it not being in the rules that you find it unfair, then that's fine. But if you do something not in the rules, but equally has bad has anything the rules state not to do, it is fair that the mods can give you wrath. Some of the people here seem to think that if it isn't in the rules, then it is therefore okay, no matter how bad it is. The rules can't cover everything.
There are two threads linked on page 2; to absolutely ridiculous bannings / suspensions displaying the fact the mods abuse the rules, and ban people for the sake of it. Go have a look at them and tell me that things outside the rules should still be ban-worthy...

If they're ban worthy - make them part of the rules when they arise; don't just ban people for the sake of it. Something deemed bad is subjective; as is the case with a lot of these incidents; banning people and not changing the rules just means you're going to ban more and more people for rules they didn't know existed. It's a stupid system that doesn't work - your point is flawed.

I was suspended for posting a comic. I don't get what the problem was to be honest, it was topical, it wasn't offensive in any way. The reason given was that my post was too short. I don't understand that at all really, I mean a picture tells a thousand words and it was a four panel cartoon with plenty of dialogue. Doesn't matter I guess. Still pissed me off though.

Suspended once over something very silly, but oh well.

All I'll say is, never forget to put inverted commas around it when you're giving an example of a flame war.

Put on Probation and Suspended. Obviously not banned yet but it's bound to happen sooner or later.

Was put on probation once for stereotyping a certain religious group of people. Other than that, was also warned once before that for calling someone out on his bullshit. Just about it.
Nothing wrong with stereotyping. It's actually useful in creating expectations. As long as you're prepared to accept that somebody is different, and not hold things against 'em when they demonstrate that they ARE different, stereotyping is good.

If I see a dude in a hoodie jogging in the park, well... he's got more energy than me, but that's about all. 12 of 'em heading towards you in an empty street, where it's midnight and most of the streetlamps are out? Running, running, running...

That's stereotyping, and it's perfectly reasonable. Why should race, religion or anything be 'special'? It's just yet another politically correct whinge stomping all over free speech.

OT : So far, I've never managed to get onto probation, let alone suspended or banned. I tried! I really did. Promise! :D

OT: I recently got a warning for posting just an image. It was an excellent image, an XKCD comic that was highly relevant to the thread topic, but I respect the mods' decision.
