Have you ever bought a game you knew nothing about and upon playing it found it to be AWESOME?

knights of the old republic

Obviously knew it was star wars, but knew absolutely nothing else about it whatsoever. Loved it and it is one of if not my favourite games ive ever played.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, Musashi: Samurai Legend, Super Robot Wars MX are all games I knew of but didn't know alot about them at the times and when I got them all I loved each and every moment in them^^ A more modern example would be Batman Arkham Asylum. I heard about the game from my mate coming to the 360. I didn't own a 360 at the time so couldn't play it but played it at his and loved it! I've finished that game 4 times now and its definetly among my most cherished games now :) Roll on October for Arkham City!

Warhammer 40000: dawn of war

Walking through a game shop knew nothing at all of 40k just thought the cover looked cool so picked it up.

all these years later i own every DOW all the dlc for the new ones 3 different 40k armies and numerous other 40k affiliated stuff.

Safe to say what affect the game had on me

The Orange Box. I had never heard of Valve before, but thanks to my random purchase I was introduced to Steam, and had a new favourite developer.

I did this a lot when xbox games came down to $5 after the 360 came out. Picked up a lot of good stuff I wouldn't have played otherwise: Oddworld, Phantom Dust, Armed and Dangerous, Timesplitters...

Good times.

Deus ex. I bought the game thinking of it as a space ship shooter(Shutup I was 12). I managed to hit one of the best games on the PC for a bargain price of 100 INR (Roughly 2.50$) The version was a GOTY by the way.

Metro 2033. I had seen it a few times before when I went to EB Games, then ended up buying it and LOVED it. Can't wait for Metro Last Light.

I got grandia out of a bargain bin at one point. Looked interesting from the box. Sat on the shelf for years. Played it eventually. Needless to say, I now own Grandia II and III and if I can ever find xtreme, its joinging the collection. Absolutely amazing battle system.

Portal. I didn't even know it was from Valve, who made my favorite game of all time (HL2).

Fallout 3, hadn't been aware of it's release before I got it, but had played the old Fallout games. And by Odin's eye that game is awesome!

Mount & Blade: Warband. I bought both Warband and the first game, during a Steam sale. Me and my mate, his PC connected to my tv, me on my laptop, playing for hours. Was so epic. Fucking love that game...
I did the same thing and bought it during a steam sale as an impulse buy. That game is amazing. The best way I can describe is it's like if the people from the total war series and the people from the elder scrolls series made a game minus the magic.

I was at an old game shop with my friend and he went there to pick up elder scrolls morrowind and I was there to pick up jet set radio future and then there was a buy two get one free sale on xbox originals so I picked up a game called death I was expecting it to be a crappy fighting game and just picked it up for lulz and then we got to my friend's house and decided to try it out and it was pretty fun (not a fighting game but like ultimate frisbee meets football without all the quarters and downs)
