For me it was fallout 3, resident evil 5, command and conquer3:TW, oblivion, red dead redemption, etc. Almost any game that wasnt the first in the series.

Bought God of War with my first ever wage, and I had no god damn clue what it was about. I miss being as happy as I was with no hopes or expectations going into it, truly a beautiful experience.

Latest one would have to be Nier, I had heard of it but not one thing about it. Got it pretty cheap and enjoyed it so much, beat it in a few weeks I loved it so much. Sad the reviews were so poor.

Day of the tentacle. Didn't buy it, my dad passed it onto me from friend, with the words, "you like monkey island, right?". Installed it, then instantly hooked. Though was stuck on how to get the humans outside in the future for ages.

It was purely because of the hype and heresy of other games that I decided to buy Bioshock, the first one. I purchased it and Halo 3 at the same time, when I was going to be out of town for a week for work (I was taking my 360 with me). Now, I'm not even that big a Halo fan, but I decided that I wanted to play one game at a time in the hotel. I didn't have as much free time as I thought and ended up only playing Halo for the entire week.

At first I actually felt like I had wasted the money on Bioshock because I ended up not playing it while on my business trip. When I returned home I actually put the game aside and was considering returning it to the store. It took a friend who had never played the game himself, saying that he heard good things about it, to make me give it a try a few weeks later.

... I've now played the game over a dozen times and like so many others, consider it a watermark in game creation. It's absolutely one of my favorites, and I was this close to returning the copy I had bought just to play while bored at my hotel.

I'll never miss an opportunity to champion NIER. Seriously, it's one of the most underrated games to come out last year and you owe it to yourself to play it, fuck the reviews.

Exactly. That game is the only thing that has been able to make me cry in the last 5 years, be it pain or otherwise. It's story, characters, art direction and soundtrack are all unparalleled in my opinion. I even enjoyed it's gameplay.

God of War 1.

I went to the store and one of the guys that worked there asked me what kind of game was I looking for. I told him I was just browsing, but I was interested in an action game, swords and stuff like that. He left for a couple seconds and came back with the game, I looked at it and my first thought was "Meh, a mythology game...". The guy noticed my pseudo frown at the box art and told me "Take it, if you don't like it, you can come back and not only trade it for another game, but you can punch me in the face as well for recommending it to you". I got home and played it, and played it, and played... until the night came. I went to sleep knowing that the guy at the game store knew his stuff really well. No punch was needed. :)

I honestly have no idea why I bought PROTOTYPE. I guess it was because it was only 20 bucks off the Activision website.

But it was totally worth it, and I can't wait for the sequel next year!

I got Burnout 2 without knowing anything about it. Now Burnout is one of my favorite game series, with Burnout: Revenge being one of my favorite games of all time.

Basically was my case with Oblivion.

I knew jack shit about it. Hell, I thought it was an MMO the first time I overheard people talking about it.
Yeah, prety much the same for me. My brother bought it for the hell of it when he got his PS3 along with Motorstorm and Resistance, and we ended up playing it 10x more than both of the other games combined.
Same here only for me it was morrowind and not oblivion.

Yeah, IMO I really should have started out with Morrowind, because now I've played Oblivion I just can't go back to reading fucking walls of text again. XD

Borderlands.

My brother brought it home and I was like "What the hell game is that? Some guy is blowing his brains out on the cover."

I then played it, had a lot of fun, and got addicted to it.

*flame sheild at ready* Dark Cloud, not the second one the first one. I actually enjoy the first one about x10 more than the second one even though it took me about 5~6 years to find the second one.... not looking that hard, but definitely every time I happened to be at the game store, which ever that was at the time.

This has happened to me a few times.

For christmas one year, my brother bought me Mass Effect when it just came out. I was actually upset that he picked what I at the thought time was going to be a shit game... and it ended up being one of my favorite series ever.

Also, Knights of the Old Republic, I fished it out of a bargin bin and played it. Loved it.

Legend of Dragoon, loved it.

Loooots of games. I'm actually like... the sister of someone who grew up to the gaming generation of Genesis and NES. PSI games and N64 for me that's like... the beginning.
xD.
