TimeSplitters 2, I bought the game knowing pretty much nothing about it other than it had monkeys in and you could shoot them. Turned out to be the game I played most on my PS2 and probably an all time fav.

This. Just this. It's one of the best games on the PS2, with actually likable characters, smooth platforming and an interesting story (although the ending does seem a little rushed).
Huh? What?
Could you please elaborate?
The reset button ending (rewinding to before the Sands of Time were released) may be an expedient way to solve the whole 'everyone in the world is a sand monster' predicament, but it does come across as a little cheap.

'I bet Psychonauts doesn't live up to all the hype.'
'Minecraft looks so boring.'
'Recetear sucks, I am not enjoying this game at all...'

Many hours of all 3 now.

Fable II. Knew absolutely nothing about the game, its predecessor, or its celebrity creator. I made a good choice that day.

Anothern one:

I bought the Conan game for 10 ? a few years back, to play at a friends PS3. Thought it was good for shits and giggles only, but it was really enjoyable with a few very epic boss battles.
Also, it was the first God of War like game i played, thus it felt more fresh that the originals. Couldn't rerally get into them for that reason.

I bought Red Faction 1 and Genji: Dawn of the Samurai and knew absolutely nothing about either of them. Loved every minute of both. Also; Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies. I knew it was a fighter jet sim but I didn't know how awesome the game actually was.

Mount & Blade: Warband. I bought both Warband and the first game, during a Steam sale. Me and my mate, his PC connected to my tv, me on my laptop, playing for hours. Was so epic. Fucking love that game...
Seconded. I bought M&B because it was fairly cheap and looked pretty good. Now I'm unable to tear myself from it.

Quite a few times. When I got the Witcher back in 2007 I knew nothing about it but it's turned out to be one of my favourite games of all time.

I also knew nothing about Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) when I got that. Luckily for me I adored it and it ha also become one of my favourite games.

Yet again I didn't know a thing about S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl when I first got it. What do you know, it became my favourite game of all time (alongside Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines)!

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon rising, I had 20 euros in my wallet and I found Fable 2 and OFDR for 10 euros each, I like Fable and I loved OFDR great fun with friends.

Oddworld Munch's Odissey: I was a kid when I bought it and I didn't liked it because of the farts or burps but because it was fun to play and it was original

Timesplitter's Future Perfect, bought it from my cousin loved every single bit

Viva Piñata: bought it...loved it it can be annoying sometimes

Project Gotham Racing: first and only racing game I trully loved, and it's the reason why I want to buy a Mini Cooper when I have the age to drive (and the money) I loved the car in the game, I was curious about it and I just love the car

I am completely with you MonocleClaire. Okami was one of my biggest surprises and is one of my alltime favourite games. I stumbled across it while playing a friend's Wii. The moment I saw the Japanese Art I had to have it for myself and quickly bought it.

The other game had to be Darksiders. A friend mentioned it in passing and said that it was a pretty awesome game with cool combat but said nothing else, so I went out on a limb and bought it. Best money ever spent. My friend failed to mention it was about one of the freaking Horsemen of the Apocalypse and that you dismember demons bloodily with a gigantic sword and you don't give a shit about ANYTHING. Really, my friend failed me :p

I adore the game.

TimeSplitters 2.

My uncle got this game not long after he got a PS2 (and before I got one) and I switched it on, thinking 'Oh this should just kill a couple of hour or so', but within half an hour of playing I was totally hooked. This revelation eventually led me to regard the TimeSplitters series as one of the best FPS series of all time, and also led to my infinite sadness when Free Radical went into administration.

You knew 'nothing' about the majority of these games?? Come on now. I find it hard to believe you hadn't heard any information on RDR, Minecraft, L4D, and Resident Evil 5. RE5 is part of a series for god's sake!
