I'm pretty sure I played Abe's Exodus before Abe's Oddyssey. And I definitely played SSX Tricky & SSX3 without ever having played the first one. I played Saints Row 2 without playing Saints Row, and Vice City was the first GTA I played. The other games I played without playing their previous installments were only technical sequels - same franchise but completely unrelated.
From what I understand, it was pretty much stand-alone and only the original premise (albeit a shallow one) remained. So it probably doesn't count.
Not many games follow a loyal sequel structure anymore. Resident Evil 5 is considered a 'canon sequel', but it had nothing to do with Resident Evil. It had past character experiences and some monster appearances, about it. Wesker shouldn't have been relevant in the 5th.
In Code Veronica:
Wesker wasn't relevant either, it was just fan service or an attempt to make the story relevant to the original canon.
Resident Evil 4 was just messy. Pretty good game in it's own right, but Resident Evil it was not.
They should have branched off with RE4 and RE5, left the canon sequel numbers out of the title and created official spin-offs, which is what they really are.. Spin-offs and nothing more. Code Veronica was the last good Resident Evil, in my opinion.
Fallout 3, Half Life 2, TF2, ummm, Garrys Mod 10, GTA4, Im counting TF2 n GMod 10 cause i bought them from a freinds tip and didnt know if they had storyes. Oh and also Fear 2, Enigmo 2 and Age of Empires 3. Cant think of any others from top of my head.
Please tell me that 'previus' is some sort of injoke and not just poor spelling.
I've played all the Shadow Hearts games without playing Koudelka, if that counts. I like following stories, so I don't like to play my games out of sequence.
