I still do, and i'm a college-goer. Granted it has a R4 card in it with a wholel ot of music and some emulator's but still. And since I can't do concentrate well without music, I don't leave the house without it.

Ahhhhh, I remember the halcyon days of taking my gameboy to school to play Hamtaro or my DS to play Animal Crossing and Nintendogs... so yes, I took my handhelds to school but it wasn't ever anything violent or combat heavy so there was lots of room for flexibility for when I actually had to listen. Furthermore, I really only played games in the classes I knew I was doing well in; even my addiction to video games never hindered my ability to learn... except for physics. I'll NEVER be good at physics and no amount of Portal or studying can fix that.

. . . I played a whole lot of Nintendogs in English class.

Once brought my new PSP to school, started playing Daxter at lunch. One of the high school lunch monitors came up and in an overly stern voice said "Put it away. Now." One of the very few times the risk of losing something valuable overcame my problem with authority.

I was at lunch. Complete bullshit. It was on the principal's orders too. No one could have an MP3 player either.

Pah! School? Try school, sixth form and university!

I have anxiety issues that plague me when I go on nights out, I find bringing my DS along helps me get through it by having something to focus on so I don't feel I'm being ignored for no reason :D

So yeah, if you see a girl in a pub on her 3DS that's probably me XD

I remember being the only kid on the playground that had a trade link cable that worked. I ran the entire Pokemon trading schtick. I was the God damn Godfather of Pokemon.
Heh. That was me in my town.

Especially once I figured out the glitch with the link cable that allowed you to effectively clone a Pokémon that's being traded.

I also was the only person in town that had #151, Mew, in the original game. Which I refused to clone, because I was a jerk.

I had a "Giga Pet", which from what I remember was an americanized Tamagotchi, or perhaps just one with animals instead of monster things. I got in confiscated even though I only had it on the playground. The teacher had to go through my backpack to get it. I got it back at the end of the school year.

I routinely brought my gameboy to school. My school was a local sports powerhouse, so ANY sporting event practically meant than anyone not involved in sports had the day off, or at least 90% of the day was now a study hall. Teachers didn't really care as long as I kept the sound off.

I brought my SP for the ride to New York (Senior trip), everyone thought I was playing pokemon and gave me shit for it, and my gaming friends were pissed off that I didn't bring pokemon when they heard I had been playing it.

Apart from the Giga Pet, I never got in trouble for having any of them. I got in more trouble for bringing in a CD Player and listening to that before school, since my bus driver got us there like an hour before classes started

When I was in second to fourth grade (age 8-10) the Pokemon games on GameBoy were very popular.
Many had them to school so on breaks everyone used to battle each other or trade pokemon.
Good times :)

I did at the end of my schooling. I had a DS and a PSP for +5 years before I bothered buying any game for them. So half of senior year on my off time I brought the psp to school. Then in college I brought the DS.

I'd take it occasionally in elementary-high school and play it during lunch, but I take to class with me everyday in college. I try to cram all my classes to one day so I don't have to drive as much but sometimes that leaves me with a lot of downtime.

I take my 3DS to College sometimes and play it during my large in-between class breaks.
Before that I never brought electronics to any of my schools since theft was always a big problem.

We weren't allowed to in primary school for fear of losing them. I simply never thought to in high school for a long time until I started doing it in my last year :)

In primary school we were always allowed one toy on the last day of term - thankfully gameboy colours counted as toys :D On the last day of term half the boys in our class brought their gameboy colours and Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow version. Someone brought a link cable too so battles all the live long day XD I annihalated most of my class with my Lvl70 Charizard. Dear love the previous kid-who-was-beating-everyone - he thought his Lvl50 Venusaur was the shiz :p

EDIT: To clarify - when I say "losing them" (gameboys), I mean the teachers taking them off us. I mean, obviously they would have given them back at some stage but we didn't know that...

My public school system had a zero tolerance, no electronics policy. I'm a bit older than most people here, so it was no big deal as pretty much the only handheld was a Gameboy and very few people had cell phones. I still agree with the policy. I don't think students need any electronics than those provided/allowed by the school (even cell phones.) They are to much of a distraction. I remeber how much of a distraction the games were on our graphing calculators.

I never brought a handheld to school, but I did secretly attach a pokewalker to my shorts during Physical Education once.

I cant remember about school but I recently took my 3DS in to work. It was absolutely dead quiet but I was still expected to be there incase an urgent job came through.

I played Ocarina of Time and Pokemon Y for about 5 hours.
