My biggest one I think has to be, well...it's a bit of a story, in more of a 'one thing led to another' sense. All of it culminating in an enjoyment of Tokutatsu and J-drama. Of course it originally started with that wonderful series that most hyperactive 90s kids enjoyed: Power Rangers.

A few years back I was flipping through channels one day at about six in the morning as I was getting ready for work. Stopping on some family network for a moment, I saw a face, and more importantly, a voice that I knew I remembered, but for the life of me I couldn't remember where or why. Spiky hair, small beard, he seemed like any other b-film action-hero so I figured maybe I'd seen him in some crappy sci-fi channel film or something. When the spandex-covered grunts started mucking around their rubber-suited boss I figured it was whatever incarnation of Power Rangers was on this year. I didn't care so much about the series since I was beyond it to the point of mocking, but the guy's identity bugged me. Since they'd given his character a last name and it was apparently halfway through the show I sat down and kicked my feet up to laugh and hope to catch the end credits to see who the hell this man was and why I remembered him.

Aside from some surprising witty writing (the Bulk and Skull slapstick being noticeably absent), things went about as to be expected. Not much changes when you have something down to a science, essentially. It wasn't until I heard the remark of "Aren't you a little old for this TOMMY?!" that my eyes widened in shock. THAT was where I'd seen, and heard, the guy before! Suffice it to say my mind was blown, and it was vaguely entertaining enough for me to continue watching episodes in the mornings after. (Many jokes at Tommy's expense, as well as jokes on the obviousness of things like everyone just HAPPENING to wear their color in their civilian clothing.)

one thing led to another as I poked around and did some research. From Power Rangers, I found Super Sentai, from there I found Kamen Rider, and from there I found the other dramas and serieses that exist here on the glory of the interwebs. It's never horrendously deep or anything, but eh. I enjoy it and if nothing else it saves me from watching reality television.

A long time ago, I was visiting one of my aunts' house for some get-together. Since I was young at the time and most of the food that the rest of my family was eating didn't appeal to my young taste buds, my aunt opted to make me a grilled cheese sandwich. When I tasted the finished grilled cheese sandwich, it tasted very good compared to the others that I had previously in my short existence. I could tell it was the bread, so I asked my aunt what type of bread she used. She said she used potato bread. And ever since a week later I have been eating potato bread almost daily.

The Disney show Phineas and Ferb. I was very much a Nickelodeon kid growing up in the 90's and I never watched much of the Disney Channel (watched the hell out of Disney movies though). Last May we took my little girl to Disney World for the first time, so there wasn't much to watch at night other than the Disney Channel. At first I was running it as background noise because I can't stand silence, then I paid attention for a bit and realized that a subplot of every episode was about a secret agent platypus in a funny hat doing battle with a mad scientist....

I don't think I need to elaborate any further.

The show "Spliced." Its a strange Canadian cartoon that has apparently been canceled but replays on certain channels in the USA at around 3 AM after He-Man, She-Ra and Filmations Ghostbusters. I left the DVR on record because my dad was telling me about my aunt finding He-Man funny when she was little. I watched that and the other programs and recorded all night for a couple of days, then I watched Spliced.

Holy crap. I dunno if it's just that the show is so bizarre or that it immediately followed 4 hours of filmation animation, i.e. rotoscoping, static characters with poor lip sync and hilariously bad voice acting, but the smoothly animated and nonsensical Spliced hit me like a comically timed anvil. I think I have the entire series recorded now, which is a shame, I could have used more.

Oh she did? She reads manga as well then?

OT: I picked up the Eragon series on accident at the bookstore and am ever so patiently waiting for the 4th book.
^This. Did he release the title of the book yet? (or even the release date? o.o)

On the other hand: I picked up Persona 4 during the winter because I was stuck at my old house with nothing but a PS2.
Now I'm trying to find previous Shin Megami Tensei games to play XD

A few years ago I had a "heartbreak" and was really depressed for a while. Thought I should listen to some music to calm me down, and I suddenly wanted to listen to Nothing Else Matters for some reason. I am now a hardcore Metallica fan and listen to all their stuff and practically worship the band.

Also Extra Credits. My brother was trying to explain the uncanny valley so we YouTube'd it and watched the video which would later become Extra Credits.

Valve Software.
My dad had bought me Unreal 99 and 2004, I'd played them for a while and I heard a voice clip from a mod in it that sounded like something I saw in a youtube video. The youtube video was about some game called "Garry's Mod".

Months later, my dad came back with some game called "Half-Life".

Also, Drum & Bass and Dubstep.
I was introduced to Drum & Bass by EvilDaedalus in his How To Play: The Pyro video. Specifically Pendulum. I'd listen to Pendulum occasionally for at least 2 years before I found out what Drum & Bass was.

Dubstep is fairly new to me. I was reading about the character "DJ P0N-3" on Know Your Meme. I flipped through a few videos and saw one called "Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites". I figured I'd give it a listen.
I now have a Skrillex EP on my phone.

Why yes. Down here in Florida at least, I believe the date is within this month, if not next week. A promotional cover was on display of a green dragon (I forget which dragon from the books was green, I need to reread the whole 2700 or so pages again) last week so it is definitely coming soon.

Thunder Cats and other 80's cartoons that I would stay up late and watch when I was 5-ish.

I also discovered the Escapist by accident, best accident ever!

If you think about it, many of the things that people like best are the things they discovered on accident, barely looked into. They just dove right in. Actually, most of the things I like now were discovered on accident. I saw Fullmetal Alchemist when it first came on, liked it then, and looked it up for nostalgia's sake about six months ago and now I like some anime. I started jamming to the soundtrack of Jak X one day and that pushed me to find some good music. I discovered FPS games because of a babysitter my mom got for my brother and I waaayyyy back in 2002 and he brought his Xbox for he and I to play. Guess which game?
Was it Halo?
