Have you ever found a version of a character that would be better than the one chosen?

So I was trawling around the web when I ran across this Wonder Woman splash page after finding out that she would be in the new DC movie.

I always thought of Wonder Woman being bigger and heavier set than average. When the new costume for Wonder Woman came out for Superman v. Batman, I was obviously disappointed.

So down to the question, what heroes or heroines on TV and Movies have you seen that are done in an alternative way that you find interesting or in a way that would fit better with what you saw?

I read online that apparently the Bigby in the Fable comics is an extremely vicious man who doesn't mind innocents getting hurt, supported brutal counterattacks (Specifically ones made by Israel) and really only cared about looking out for himself and his family. I much prefer the portrayal of him in the Wolf Among Us, where I get the impression that while he is jaded and bitter, he does want what's best for Fabletown and to be a good guy.

An interpretation of Superman that was far more like Grant Morrison's All Star Superman rather than the Man of Steel version we did get. I really did want to like the film and I did not even mind the killing of Zod all that much. All that mopeyness throughout that whole thing, however, just felt very un-superman-like.

I'm assuming this isn't just for pictures, but for variations in character interpretation. For that, I remember, years ago, coming across an Outlaw Star fanfic that focused on Jim and Gene's relationship. No, not a fuckfic, it covered Jim's past, how He meet up with Gene, and why he always stuck around. It was hurt/comfort and the things Jim went through in that were pretty messed up, but I thought it was well-done. I honestly kept applying it to to the in-show characters (I always wished they did more with the Jim and Gene brother thing than the GenexMelfina relationship, bu that's just me).

I've always liked the "mirror universes" where Lex Luthor is a good guy and Superman is the bad guy. I just think a lot of "god" charters work better as villains. That said I would prefer All Star Superman over Man of Steel Superman.

I haven't played Wolf Among Us, but the comics version of him wants what's best for Fabletown too. I can't recall any point of the series where he was okay with innocents getting hurt, either. At least not by his actions. He does support brutal Israeli counterattacks, though.

I'd have preferred it if Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had been more like the one in the comics -- just a criminal out to earn a quick illegal buck. The Spider-man movies haven't had any like that so far.

Movie wise I'd say that Michael Keaton was my preferred Batman over Christian Bale's unintentially hilariously silly Batman.
Just the way he strode in his suit, the fact that he could pull off a smile in the batsuit without it looking corny.
And I have to say that Bruce Wayne was also a bit better in that movie than Christopher Nolan's series. Bruce was just so out there that I'm surprised he WASN'T suspected of something. Keaton on the other hand kept it in for himself.

Vice Versa for The Joker. Jack, you're good, you're great, you're freaking fantastic to the point where I can't even say more in hopes of not offending you. But I have to be honest, Heath Ledger takes this for the Joker. Because there's BatS*** Crazy, and then there's Piss-Your-Pants Scary.

I could've sworn I read somewhere that he was ok with mundies getting brutally murdered by werewolves.

Not sure if this count but when my mate told me that James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) could of be Constantine instead of Keanu Reeves, I find that idea far more appealing than what had transpire.

Not sure if this counts either, but I've always been fond of this alternate concept for Snivy that someone came up with.

eh...for games...Alex mercer
In the first game he was kinda an awful person, but getting gradually better wth an actual character arc, and being fairly likeable in endgame
in prototype 2, he was the villain because he'd be too powerful to be a PC (although prototype 1 actually hinted at an even stronger creation codenamed pariah which could have been the villain, so not sure what the hell stopped that happening)
But yeh, in prototype 2, he was occasionally the cool but douche self hehad been previously, and occasionally moustache twirlingly evil, more or less at random.

Not helped by the fact the main character of 2 was a...kinda borderline racist stereotypical big black guy, presumably for contrast but...I always felt kinda uncomfortable every time he spoke, which really just compounded the problems

Mainly just fanfic versions of characters. Probably the best upgrade I've seen in a gaming novelization was what the Legacy of Metal series did with Dr. Wily. Initially a tragic victim of madness caused by the effects of teleporter use on humans, over the six novels his sanity gradually erodes and his teams of robotic murderers become more and more brutal until there is a scene in the finale where people react to the sight of his emblem appearing on all the TV channels as though it was a Swastika announcing a reborn Third Reich- with pure terror.

Another villain I've really enjoyed the latest version of was Megatron in Transformers Prime. While anyone who follows my posts will know my penchant for Beast Wars, Prime Megatron manages to be even intimidating as well as tying Mecha-Barney for the snarkiest Megatron. On top of that he actually has something close to a sympathetic backstory, a slave miner who fought his way up to the top of the gladiator circuit in the city of Kaon. The mere fact that things like gladiator circuits and slave mines exist under an Autobot government gives the impression that he might have been partly right in wanting to change Cybertron by force. Of course that part didn't go so well but oh well. The model designers have admitted to making his face look as much like a shark as possible:

Actually, it was the exact opposite. There was a sidestory where he came a cross a town of werewolves. His introduction to this town was coming across a human being hunted by a pack of them. As he chatted with the guy, the hunters showed up, human guy ran and Bigby confronted the hunters. His reaction upon seeing them?
"Werewolves? Seriously?"

He was readying for a fight but someone tranqued him and blah blah blah. Anyway, eventually shit really hit the fan and he ended up killing a cult-like segment of the population and gave a little speech to the werewolves who weren't completely beyond redemption.

In that speech he specifically calls the hunts "shameful". Bigby in the comics is a pretty stand up dude. Joined the fight against the nazi's during WWII and everything.

Oh, is it just for T.V. and movies? Well, I'm adding mine anyway:

Tali, from Mass Effect. When she finally takes off her helmet and leaves you that picture...and the best they could do was photoshop a real picture of a model? They couldn't, I don't know, put some effort into it? There is a ton of fan art out there long before she was revealed that blew BioWare's version out of the water.

If The Force from Star Wars can manifest itself as a living person, and indeed if that person (this avatar of The Force) is meant to be the playable character in The Force Unleashed games, than just about anybody other than Star Killer would have been a better character. People like Exar Kun, Naga Sadow, Ulic and Cay Qel-Droma, Darth Bane, Darth Krayt...There are a ton of established characters with intense power who could have been better suited to a Force Unleashed game, as was demonstrated in the opening of the first game when you are allowed to play as Darth Vader.

Closest thing would be Rhino I guess.
