So this got me thinking, why can a girl comment on how beautiful she thinks another girl is, but when a guy comments on how handsome he thinks another guy is it's suddenly gay?
It's society's double standard at work again. Lesbian action is hot, gay action is icky.
I don't know that it's a double standard. Lesbian action (well, to me, real "lesbian action" between two attractive women) IS hot, whereas gay action is "icky." But that's just because I'm one of those people who thinks that all men, myself included, are icky. Actually treating someone as if they are strange for one and not for the other is a double standard.

Chris Hemsworth is a very, very, handsome man...one of my female friends was talking about how hot he was. And I agreed.
Most straight men don't comment on how attractive they think another guy is. This is for two primary reasons, beyond the homophobia that is characteristic of some of us.
1. We don't care
2. We aren't attracted to men at all, so the thought isn't there in the first place.

I think you define man-crush differently from how most of us do. Man-crush is usually meant to indicate that a guy has admiration for another man that either borders on obsessive or makes for an easy opportunity for the insipid to be homophobic. It's yet another chance to homo-eroticize everything. Look, it's Sam and Frodo walking up the path to Mount Doom. That's homoerotic. Here's two wrestlers in spandex pile driving each other - that's homoerotic. Look, two gay guys sucking each other off - that's homoerotic. I'm sick of it!

Where was I? Anyway, I'm sure you're as adverse to labels as a lot of people are, but if you're actually attracted to men and find yourself saying things like the bolded statements above, you may want to look into the possibility that you are gay or bi.
I'll explain it like this: I think Thor is a very attractive guy, and I can see why girls like him. But I am not physically attracted to him. Like I don't want to make out with him or anything like that. Just admire him for his handsomeness.

Here's the thing: Sexuality is not a Black & White issue, where we simply have either gay or straight people from either gender. We are all bisexual to some extent, it just depends how far along on one side of the scale you are
Ugh, would people please stop with this? Not everybody is on that scale. Please only speak for yourself.

I'm not sure I understand. In the OP you're practically gushing over him, and you said you agreed with your friend that he's "hot." I can acknowledge that Matt Damon's a good looking guy, but I'd never refer to him as "hot." Maybe if you meant it the way that Will Farrell did in Zoolander ("He's so hot right now!"), I would get it. Or maybe it's just a vernacular issue.

I would like to point out that a very big reason women look at each other and comment on each other is because, regardless of their sexual orientation, they notice other women's looks and how they size up to their own. A great deal of this is nurture and not nature, but I'm not here to start that argument. I'm simply pointing out that it IS. We guys will point out when it looks like one of our buddies has been taking care of himself, but it's not common for one of us to say "Ted, you're so hot today!" or "Check out the ass on Peter!" These are usually comments reserved, at least for men, for people to whom we are attracted.

You say you simply "appreciate his beauty," or whatever, and I'm inclined to take you at your word. I guess it's just a difference of how you and I speak.

Strangely enough, Dr.Halsey from Halo. She's smart, witty, doesn't mince words, and is quite pretty in the comic books. It may also be because I'm working on becoming a biomedical engineer and one of my dreams is creating a powered exoskeleton for combat use.

Let's start with the obvious, Nathan Fillion. 50% of my Castle viewing is thinking how gorgeous Stana Katic is, the other 50% is thinking how handsome Nathan Fillion is.
Alex Turner, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris, Cillian Murphy, 90s Jarvis Cocker, 90s Damon Albarn... wait, this list is getting a bit too long...

My boyfriend has a man crush on Matt Damon. I don't quite understand it other than Jason Bourne being totally badass. Maybe that's it.

if im bi, can i answer?

even if i can... ive never had a "crush" as such, and certainly not for a real-person, and even less so a celebrity.

im certainly attracted to random muscular guy #7, but that alone doesnt make a crush in my books.

Gotta say it: Robert Downey Jr. I am secure in my orientation, but if that man told a bad joke I would giggle like a school girl.
