I had them in second grade. It was an epidemic, and my entire class had them all at once, except one girl. I don't remember scratching a ton, but I do remember waking up, and there would be a ton of the ones that fell off in the night in the shape of my head on my pillow when I'd wake up.

And yeah, milk never did anything for me either. I've never even heard that before. I just had to keep using a ton of that pink stuff (at least, I think it was pink).
you use oatmeal THE GLORIOUS OATMEAL!!

I had it when I was two years old, and I almost died from it. guess that means I will never get it again or I'll die from it If i get it again.

Well I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one who got it twice. I always get weird looks when I tell people that. Granted they were there when I was a young lad and probably didn't even care enough to avoid it a second time. But I can't remember it itching much.

I just remember bathing in oatmeal for some reason...

I had the shot for it but still got it twice.
Mild in both events, or so I'm told, I don't remember much since I was so young.

I don't remember the age exactly, but maybe around 6 or 7 or so. It was the same age I discovered my perverse joy of picking at my own scabs.

I believe that oatmeal works in the same way as calamine lotion aka it soothes.
it is one of those things that you always hear from parents or grand-parents.

or you could just use oven mitts and duct tape them to the sufferer's hands. we did that with a room mate when she got it.

Yes, but all I remember is that they showed up on my crotch first and I was freaking out...

Didn't get it till I was 18, and it gets worse the older you get. Had the little bastards everywhere, all over my body, in my mouth and throat, between my teeth. Didn't really scratch at them that much though so no scars.
Mouth?! Throat?! Teeth?!?! I've never heard of those cases! I'd be a fool to ask if it hurt.
The ones in my throat made it feel like having a really really bad sore throat to the point where swallowing solid food was a new adventure in pain at every meal until I gave up and lived on liquids until it went away. That was the worst of it though, or I just have a high tolerance for pain, I've certainly had things happen that have hurt worse.

Had 'em in my early 20's after somehow missing several waves of it as a kid. My lord, that was a nightmare. My clearest memory is lying in the living room recliner, half-conscious, for hours and hours on the worst day of it. Couldn't even open my eyes. In the evening a show hosted by Bill Kurtis was on the TV. I remember hearing his voice, clearer and more present than I'd ever heard it, but that's it. The rest of the evening was lost to me.

As for scratching, I resisted once I knew what it was. But a few of the earliest marks were scratched and left scars. No biggie, I've already got enough pimples and moles that a few small scars won't damage my looks.

And now I can get shingles when I'm older! Yay!:(

I've also gone through worse. One of the two worst injuries I've ever suffered was when I was 10. Someone slam shutted the sliding door of a VW bus on my right hand. I've been left handed ever since. Really makes chickenpox a day at the beach, doesn't it?
