Have you ever liked a game everyone else hated (or just said it sucked)?

Lair, Mirror's Edge, Heavenly Sword.

Nice visual styles, and halfway decent game play that somehow kept calling me back to the screen.

Bulletstorm. It's my personal favorite of 2011. I like deus ex and portal 2 but I think I had the most fun with Bulletstorm.

Might as well mention it, since I've read everthing one could complain about it in forums and reviews

Never on the internet, because I know what kind of backlash that leads to.

Seriously, though, I always find myself defending generally disliked games. Final Fantasy X-2 is always the first game that pops into my head. Sure the story and characters ruined everything that was great about the first, but it had one of the best (and most challenging, if you didn't over-grind) battle systems of the entire series.

Same deal with Star Ocean 4, the characters and story made me want to gouge my eyes and ears, but I enjoyed the gameplay and end game so much that I bought it twice.

I also find myself constantly defending the GameCube, which isn't a game, but I think it still fits in this topic.

everyone I know that plays video games find Jet Set Radio Future boring, I find it to be one of my favorite games ever. I want to buy a copy to play on my 360 because i only had the one with sega gt(or something) on the other side. only the (RARE i.e. expensive) stand alone versions work on the 360.

a good few games actually. i'll think they suck, then go back and play the again and, suddenly, its all good.

FF XIII would be the most recent example. Hated it when i got it, im playing through it again and im actually really enjoying it.

Final Fantasy 8. Great soundtrack, some great action sequences. The junction system does take a bit too long to jig around and there's no official confirmation as to what actually happens after the game ends but it makes up for it in my opinion.

Final Fantasy 8, Final Fantasy 13
Burnout Paradise
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
Banjo - Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts
Aion (well the first 25 lvls atleast)
That's all I can think of right now.

Perfect Dark Zero.

I don't really know if Fable 2 & 3 count for this, but if they do, add 'em in.

As someone who loves niche games, especially PC indies and Japanese games like shmups, im constantly been told my favorite games suck.

I just say to myself that im the only person with good tastes and that most gamers wouldn't know a good game even if it slapped them in the face with it c*** :p
