I've been listening to Spaceman by Babylon Zoo for like 3 hours now, but the only part of the song I actually enjoy listening to is the "Spaceman, I always wanted you to go, into SPACE MAAAAN!".

I myself can actually add quite a few songs to this list.

Just that riff between 0:47 - 1:17.

Just the "BLACK HEARTED EVIL!" at 0:38.

Just the chorus, which makes up more of the song than the others, but still.

Does anyone else do this, or am I just picky?

Most definitely. Pretty much any screamo song I have on my iPod, I dislike the screaming and like the guitar riffs.

Yes, 1:23-1:27 of this song:

<spoiler=Wavin' Flag - Young Artists for Haiti><youtube=nB7L1BIDELc>

That is the only reason I even listened to this song.
Yes, I completely disregarded the message they were trying to convey when I first heard it.

It happens to me sometimes, though there are no songs that I actually dislike while enjoying certain segments. But there are some songs that I like, which are mainly on my iPod because of 1 segment:

Disturbed - The Sickness (Opening)
Civilization 4: Warlords - Al Nadda (Lyrical part; the rest is instrumental, and boring)
Rammstein - Mehr (Bin nie zufrieden, es gibt kein Ziel, gibt kein Genug, Ist nie zuviel, all die anderen haben so wenig)
Strapping Young Lad - Love (The instruments; I don't like the singing)

Seriously? Some songs are famous because of one, and only one, part.

A prime example would be Rockwells song, which is only famous because Micheal Jackson sang the chorus "Somebody's watching me!", you know the song.

Born to be Wild has the heavy opening and that's about it.

The list is extensive, but I can't remember all of the titles and artists involved. Needless to say, yes, everyone will have song's that they liked because of only one portion of the song.

Some kind of monster by Metallica. The whole song is average but I like the "Ominous, I am in us" part.

my general policy with songs is that if the song has one part that catches my fancy, and the rest of the song is tolerable, yeah i like it

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!..............sorry, I just can't freakin stand Lights. I actually freakin hate her music. More than Beiber. More than...anything!
*sigh*
Too each there own, no matter how much I despise their choice I guess.

OT: FOr me, I only listen to Ellegarden's Salamander for it's chorus. "just let it slide"
At about the 1 min mark.

The only song I do this for is the first 45 seconds or so of Evangelion befor it devolves into this crapy disco like song.

the Attack Attack cover, i only liked it for the breakdown in the middle but only cause the break down was in the middle of a shitty constant thumping techno beat. so I'm not really sure if that counts

That's usually why I start to like a song, is one part that catches me attention. Maybe a guitar riff, maybe a certain lyric, or the drums. Like the song "My Immortal" by Evanescence. I like the song, but the part that is the best is when the band kicks in and starts rocking out.

So basically, what this thread is asking is "If you think a song for the most part but has a single riff which is AWESOME, does that redeem it?"
My answer to this is no, not in the slightest. A mediocre song with a really awesome riff buried away does not = awesome song. It = A mediocre song with an awesome riff.

This applies really well to the latest Suffocation. Completely and utterly mediocre and then they bust out a world-endingly good riff. Makes me sad. :(

And to topic starter: Hammer smashed face is a riff-fest :D I can't believe there's only one riff in there you like. I'm not even a Cannibal Corpse fan, but that track is a death metal classic.

Hahaha kudos for listening to Babylon Zoo, gotta love the 90's crap :D

OT: Raised Fist are a very very angry band. Very. Also a little incoherent at... well... most of the time - BUT have amazing breakdowns. GRAAAAWRRRRRR METAL
