Let's do the Time Warp again!
XD, I can definitely go with that.

Seriously? Some songs are famous because of one, and only one, part.
A prime example would be Rockwells song, which is only famous because Micheal Jackson sang the chorus "Somebody's watching me!", you know the song.
Yeah, I know that song. That's the only part I like XD. The song's not bad, but the chorus is the only part that kicks it up.

my general policy with songs is that if the song has one part that catches my fancy, and the rest of the song is tolerable, yeah i like it
Same. I still like all of the songs I listed, but those parts are the only times I actually get into the song.

So basically, what this thread is asking is "If you think a song for the most part but has a single riff which is AWESOME, does that redeem it?" My answer to this is no, not in the slightest. A mediocre song with a really awesome riff buried away does not = awesome song. It = A mediocre song with an awesome riff.
Actually I was only asking if people enjoyed any songs just for a single part in them, but I agree. It doesn't make them great, but because of that one part they're not bad.

And to topic starter: Hammer smashed face is a riff-fest

I can't believe there's only one riff in there you like. I'm not even a Cannibal Corpse fan, but that track is a death metal classic.
It's not the only riff I like, but it is the only riff that really stands out to me. And yes, that track is a death metal classic, it's also the song that introduced me to the genre.

Wait, are you saying there's actually more to that song?
I disbelieve the illusion.
Heh, okay I'll go with that, but still, the song is almost 6 minutes long. You'd think 6 minutes of music that starts off so awesome, would have more to offer.
