Yeah i've seen real life trolls. Most of them come in the form of Elitist's who downplay everything that someone else likes for the sake of hating it.

To be honest, everyone at FOX news seems to fit this description. Especially Glenn Beck.

All the man does is compare things to Hitler and the Nazis. Its really annoying.

My cousin loves to troll in real life, just for the lolz, sometimes he would disagree in a heated conversation about something factual, which results in large amounts of rage for other people.

if you have what kind of trolling did he do?
I was walking across this bridge once, and one popped up in front of me. He was getting all up in my face about my hooves making a clippy-cloppy noise or some shit. I dunno, he seemed pretty crazy, which I guess is understandable when you live under a bridge.

He started announcing he was going to eat me, which was worrying. Luckily, he wasn't very bright, and I managed to trick him into waiting for my brother, who was following a little way behind. I don't actually have a brother, so whoever walked over that bridge after me got pretty unlucky.

I think Troll is an exclusively internet based term, isn't it? Real life ones have some other name. I dunno.

Let's call them assholes. Yes, that'll do.

Yes, I have met a few! Mostly in secondary school, the people who'd just continually try to get a rise out of you, to offend you and whatnot. Like the internet, it's best to ignore them.

I did meet one guy who just stood on a street corner, shouting "Muslims are gay terrorists!" over and over.

He was pretty drunk, but it was still a stupid thing to do.
dude, you can totally troll in RL. I call people trolls all the time. Assholes are not quite synonymous with trolls... Trolling is quite specific, in that it is done A) to provoke an angry response and B) for teh lulz... assholes provoke angry responses for completely different reasons.

At any rate, I've known a few trolls in my life, and I've even been a troll on occasion. Had a buddy who recently started dating a mutual friend of ours, we got drunk one night and I spent most of the night talking about how hot she was, and how if I met her drunk some night I'd totally do her.

I also had a childhood friend, from about age 3 to 13, and remembering back on it, he was totally a troll. Can't really remember specifics, I just remember him getting me all pissed off just because it was funny to see me pissed off.

I think there have always been trolls... The internet just gave us a nice, accurate term to use when describing them :)

Yes, it lived under a bridge, and I had to persuade it not to eat me, by pointing out the imminent arrival of a group of large goats.

Oh, wait, you mean like internet trolls? Also yes. Anyone who insists on speaking 1337 in real life qualifies as a troll to me. Alternatively, just like on the internet, anyone who's a complete ass-hat for no reason whatsoever except to get a rise out of others? A troll. And yes, I also know a couple of people who join sites, spam the forums with obscenities/griefing, and then leave.

EDIT: Ninja'd on the billy goats gruff thing...

Yes, I have; he was fourteen, and a friend of my little sisters. Believe it or not, he wasn't an obnoxious shit, he just liked having fun.

That being said, I worked really hard to steer him away from that; I think I was moderately sucessful.

'pologies.

I know, but I'm sure that there was some term for people like that before the internet came around, I just can't remember it..
I can't seem to find a term that fits specifically... I can't seem to remember one... I mean there are plenty of words that sorta fit, like asshole, douche, dick, etc... but none quite so accurately define the actual act of inciting anger, purely for entertainment value..

If you happen to find a word other than troll that fits that, I would be very interested to know it :D

well I think you mean people who are internet trolls not just assholes, I haven't met one but I would like to see if the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory is true of if the trolls are dickheads on and off the internet.

The definition of "troll" can be somewhat very broad and subjective.

Someone with a "correct"/justified opinion that completely opposes the majority/authority-backed opinion is likely to be labeled as a troll or silenced.

Sure, I did. He had lichen growing on his nose, and a big club for clubbing things. And he was one heck of a tuba player.

I have. They continued to just scream out the word "Penis" until I left.
