Bwahaha, fantastic.

In response to ninjastovall0's thread on girl gamers.

Have you ever met an authentic guy gamer? (has adequate background in gaming) and these are the qualifications/qualities for being authentic:
1. They didn't get into gaming because their friends were into it, or because their parents just bought them a console/PC. Basically like other gamers, they saw a game and just intuitively knew they would enjoy it, despite absolutely no social/common experience of it with friends to indicate it might be fun.
2. They actually play main titles like Sims and WoW that sell massive units and have online interaction (sorry CoD, Halo and other ultra-masculine space marine penis-fests, you're not real games).
3. Whatever they like they have substantial knowledge about its past, such as being able to expain in detail the market circumstances that led Origin to agreeing to the EA takeover, the histories of Interplay and SSI and can carry a conversation by adding their own points/knowledge/past.(example: if the XBox/PS2 is their first, they probably can't).
4. They're willing to talk about gaming in public, even when they are trying to pick up a good looking girl who clearly isn't into gaming at a party, and even if most of the people in the conversation aren't actually interest in gaming.

I ask this because the guy that posted this thread: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.262773-Authentic-girl-gamer can't tell the difference between his personal limited experience of gaming (seriously, it seems like he hasn't even been gaming for 20 years yet - OBVIOUSLY he doesn't have the same experiences that I have when I was cranking through the Origin games in the 80s, which makes him less hardcore and, by his reasoning, obviously not a gamer...) and 'being a gamer'.
Yes, most of my friends are "authentic" guy gamers.
Also what's the deal with this "authenticity?" Do you mean gamers who aren't casual myspace or iphone gamers? Because they're casual gamers.
The rest of the spectrum should be classed as just gamers, regardless of whether they play WoW, Starcraft and the like.

Hes just taking a stab at me for a thread I made.
And just like your thread, he is wrong, incredibly elitist and there really is no discussion value to be had here.
-Tabs<3-
Wrong? but I have never met a girl gamer(that was the point of my thread, to see if other guys hadnt either)
Then you mustn't play very many games.
We don't always announce we're girls you know?

I am, except that. The Sims got boring quick (first one, never played 2 or 3), and I can't afford to play WoW. Plus all those goblins, trolls, and other fairy things piss me off...

Seriously, why do people work so hard to misunderstand other people on the internet? It was exceedingly obvious what the guy meant, and yet everyone lambasted him for imprecise language. Semantics hounds can grind every discussion to a crashing halt if you let them, and that's apparently the direction we've gone here.

Edit: also, entirely unbelievably juxtaposition is probably the shittiest form of satire.

Well put, It's pretty clear what that young fellow is trying to say/ask but folks just got all loopy-doop on him because maybe it couldv'e been worded a bit better. Geez....

Edit: And to that discussion, I've never met a girl gamer either. They're still fairly mythical in my experience (I'm old though). However, I have heard them on the other end of multiplayer games so I suppose they must exist.

2nd Edit: If I ever meet one I'll do everything in my power to marry her. Anecdote, One halloween I ran into a girl dressed as THE WEIGHTED COMPANION CUBE. I just said "cool costume" and didn't chat her up anything (nervous). Biggest regret of my life.

I know this is bad satire because you're basically saying anyone born in the 90's is not a true gamer, despite the fact that everyone I socialize with is a product of the 90's and they're all gamers much like myself.

Yes, we do exist. And not all of us are the stereotypical "look, I'm a GUY, AND I play games".

All that is is a cry for attention. Most of us don't say anything, for fear of all the sexist jokes about "go back to the garage". Or "go watch football you silly man". Its just awful.

*launches self into an ever evolving vortex of these threads*

WAAAOOHHHHOOOOOHHHEEEOHOHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

After just responding to the first thread, then one about this one and the other one, now coming to see this one, I feel like I'm in some kind of time flux where I'll see nothing else BUT these sort of threads.

I'm not all that amused by them either....satirically speaking or not.

I love the thread.

No, I don't know any guy (even the most dedicated gamer) that would mindlessly ramble on about gaming trying to pick up a non-gaming gal. That just would be a stupid move on the part of the guy.

Oh, and if I hadn't mentioned it already, I love the thread.

God, don't be so bloody narrow minded!
What are you talking about? The likes of Call of Duty are horrifically sexist and should be banned. They clearly exploit strong male characters for sales figures, degrading the gender in the process...

Those poor boys. *smirks* Dressing like that and waving those guns around, like Freudian substitutes for their masculinity. DOn't they realize their giving girls the wrong idea? *chuckles*

Hello, nice to meet you.
I am in fact the only real gamer in the city of Airdrie and the only one i have ever met.
I apply to every one of your points and agree with you completely(been on the computer since 3 months old, 9 hours a day.).
Umm...what else...the only games i ever really enjoyed in my life where the Half life series, Garry's mod , banjo and kazooie and the newcomer minecraft. (absolutely detest Halo and COD)
Oh and my ego is on par with Ben Yahtzee Croshaw, my personal hero.

Actually I think the main problem is that every week there is yet another "do girl gamers exist" post on this forum. Every week everyone has to state the same things over and over. Surprise, I think they are tired of it. I have only been on here 4 months or so and I am tired of it. A simple search for "girl gamer" will take you to dozens of prior posts with more than enough information to answer the question. Girls stating what they play, why they play it, why they don't play some things... blah blah blah.
Also, his initial post referred to wondering what the lady on the show was basing her numbers on, he really should have been researching her for that information not making yet another "girl gamer" post on here, that simply cannot answer where she came up with 45% at.
And listing specifics to "test" the "girls" against really endeared him even more in this case.

I do not believe it is a misunderstanding or much to do with wording, I think it is more of a complete annoyance with the overly repeated subject at hand.

This is either your reeeeaaaaalllly shite attempt at being funny, or you are actually serious.
I bet it's the former.

Im glad there were misunderstandings, goes to show what happens when people dont TRY TO GET THE POINT the thread creator is desperately trying to elate.
(smiles)Hahaha...oh..lol
The irony is almost poetic.
So was your thread supposed to be satire too?

Wow, the escapist is full of big ol meanies today. "I'm gonna start a thread based off of some weird deluded guy's other thread just to show him how weird and deluded he is. Nah."

You either didn't understand the joke of the thread, or are pretending that it's serious and going along with the joke. Goddamn internet and it's lack of emoting
