Hrm... The Legend of Zelda II: Adventures of Link (or something along those lines). I can respect what Nintendo tried to do, but I just didn't have fun with it. And I guess they also saw the light, based on every single installement after that, up to OoT =P

I hate to jump onto this bandwagon, but I'm afraid it's necessary - GTA IV was undoubtedly the biggest disappointment for me in terms of fun. HOWEVER - I still respect it as a game, as well as its storyline, but somehow I feel the storyline would have been better off as an HBO mini-series wholly separate from the gameplay.

Additionally, I must say that I respect Armored Core as a series for some of its amazing combat (if approached correctly), but this fails to excuse the fact you will inevitably spend more time in Mech customization (I REFUSE to call it a "Core" - Mech is the standard term for gigantic killer robot, leave the excess terminology at the door please) than you will on the battlefield, especially once hitting the harder stages.

Gears of War. I can respect the mechanics, and I will admit that the game had fun points, but I can't say that I actually enjoyed playing it. It just wasn't all that fun to me. I know other people love it, but I just found it shruggable in terms of enjoyment.
Seconded. I liked the actual story, except it never really seemed to come together...

I wish they came out with a prequel, where you were fighting just as the locust start their assult on the surface world
As I've often said about GeOW, I can tell that there's a great story beneath the surface, I just wish Epic would deign to let us see it.

Half-Life 2. It's so boring but you have to respect the game for what it is.
I admit, the beginning (except Ravenholm) is fairly boring, but it really picks up around the time you get to Nova Prospekt.

I also didnt enjoy okami that much. It was very original and thats something I really like, but I got kind of tired of the waggly combat on the wii, and the lack of puzzles that required as much thinking as regular zelda puzzles.

.
I also found Okami to be a little testing at times, it got very repeditive at points and the pacing really dips about 25 hours in, although by the end it picks up and delivers a really great climax.
My problem with Okami is more that it just drags on. I still haven't beaten it, but so far I've beaten two Disc One Final Dungeons [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DiscOneFinalDungeon], and I'm wondering if the damn game ever ends. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it easily could have ended after the first "final" boss.

Anyway, my choice goes to Braid. Don't get me wrong, it's amazingly creative and mind-bending, but I played it continually wondering "when's the fun gonna start?"

I massively respect the Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid franchises, but I've never played a game from either franchise that I actually enjoyed and had fun playing. I sort of feel the same way about Street Fighter, but I do actually like those games even if my inability to play them well is immensely frustrating.

As far as i remembe rthe game took me about 40, 45 hours to finish, which is indeed a very long time. The repeating of boss fights was a bit cheap two, but at least it wasn't as annoying as in POP.

Come to think of it, POP took a lot from Okami.

Resident Evil series. I respect Capcom for it's initial survivor horror genre but since continuing it's latest installments of RE5, I certainly didn't enjoy that it involves more action than survival horror. Sure, certain parts has certain horror scenes like brandishing chainsaw manics that can instant kill you but with the shotgun in disposal and tons of ammunition lying around, the series turn into more action sequences and one liners.

Far cry 2. The graphics are amazing and the effort to make a truely free-roam game is too be applauded but it just wasn't quite playable. I think due to a mixture of the hyper-realism and the lack of engaging storyline. It was a effort not an experience.

I respected Fallout 3 but didn't enjoy it at all. Every minute that I played it, it felt forced. But its just not nearly as perfectly tuned as Oblivion and Morrowind. Skills points just limit your possibilities. I respect the way it showcased its setting and the little things like the "EMPTY" indicator and stuff, but the core of the game just didn't interest me at all. And I'm an RPG fanatic. I thought Fable 2 was much better.

Bioshock. The story kept me going for the first playthough, but i have never managed a second one. It just feels like such a chore/grind with no satisfactory end result. Rapture is beatiful but i tired if sreachign for components for a large device to open a door so i could do it again.

Exactly^^ Ive got more playtime total on that game than most other games Ive finished twice, but I just got enough after a while (I think Im missing one brush technique). But, if the game was entertaining, it would be sort of a good thing that the game had length, wouldn't it. When youre wishing for a game to end as soon as possible, something has gone wrong^^

What, nobody though of that before :p ? Not that I didnt like PoPs graphics, but the whole heal the land thing is as much Okami as it gets.

I feel the same way about most RTS games. I really really really want to love them, but I never play them or enjoy them as much as I think I'm going to. I'm still on the fence about whether to get Dawn of War II.

Aside from Fallout 3, I'm also going to have to say Starcraft, but I hate RTS games in general. But I love me some turn based strategy goodness.

Far Cry 2, definitely.
I didn't like the game, but I respected how ambitious it was.

First one that comes to mind is RE4. I've tried getting into it and restarting at least four times now, but the farthest I've been able to push myself to is at the crossroad between El Gigante and the Chainsaw sisters. The game just starts to become difficult without becoming any funner.

Also, System Shock 2 was fun to play and I saw it all the way through, but I never got into it nearly as much as Bioshock its 'inferior' spiritual successor. I mean, I'm sure SS2 had a really clean interface and interesting encounters during its heyday, but no particular encounter felt as horrifying, shocking, or complex as many situations in Bioshock. Also, lots of people have begrudged Bioshock for giving the player the ability to instantly use any weapon, but this felt alot better than coming across some awesome looking thing in SS2 and realizing: oh wait, first I have to research it, spend a ton of modules to get all my stats and weapon stats up, then find some obscure ammo for it, just to use the dang thing.

Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA4)

I can see how much stuff Rockstar crammed into it, some cut scenes are funny and I liked watching Ricky gervais in the comedy club but the game just felt really boring. I respect the game greatly but I didn't have nearly as much fun as I did in Saints Row 2! Playing co-op on that was so funny especially in the escort activities.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Call of Duty 4

I have had one playthrough and I have found it very realistic, good gameplay and a decent arrange of weapons but I never had fun in it and I never had another playthrough in it. I can see why it got so much praise and hype but like GTA4, it was way too realistic, had a lack of ccolour scheme and imagination in any part.

Shadow of the Colossus. It looked great, both technically and in terms of art direction. I could also respect the fact that it was a unique approach to the adventure genre.

In actually playing the game, though, I found traveling over the vast landscapes to be boring. And while the "enemy as the puzzle" concept sounded cool, it just annoyed me. When I'm fighting an enemy, I want to be able to defeat him in the manner that I choose.

In fairness, I bought the game while I was recovering from a prostate infection, so physical pain may have colored my opinion of the game.

Valve's entire body of work. I can appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that went into every one of their games, but I just plain don't find first-person shooters to be any fun. I've felt that way ever since I first played Doom (speaking of companies I admire but whose games I don't particularly care for, id's right up there too.)
