Long title i know. Just i recently this year got a game i've been looking forward to and was in the making for a long time. I played it and it blew me away and is easily in my top 3 (mabey even 1). So tell me has a recent game been able to top your old classics?

Dragon Age: Origins. It just beat out Fable: The Lost Chapters for my favorite game ever.

Not sure if it counts but the Halo Reach beta topped all but one(TF2) of my most favorite online shooters.

Well nothing has beaten the Baldur's Gate Saga in terms of pure awesomeness.
Nothing.

But there have been some newer games that have made me glad to be a gamer in this day in age rather then head back to the days of old. Mass Effect 2, Just Cause 2 (Yup. It's just a blast to blow everything up), Dragon Age: Origins, And Read Dead Redemption is very much looking like it'll be on that list.

It's a good time to be a gamer.

Medieval 2 took the number 3 spot on my list away from Pokemon gold/silver when it came out.

Mass Effect 2 is such an amazing game. After finished the game I just wanted to play it all over again, never has a game impressed me as much as that.

Dragon Age pushed Ocarina of Time to my 2nd fav. game of all time and Portal to 3rd and Mass Effect is now 4th. Though I'm indecisive so my top 4 fav. games can change order at any time though Da will always be number 1. Still not sure were No More Heroes fits though, I think it's 5th or something. Hmm

Mass Effect 2, and its predecessor, definitely rank up there as some of the best damn games I've ever played (though the flaws with the first became immediately more obvious after I played through #2).

Splinter Cell Conviction...but then again, most new games I play beat out my old new games as my favorites. It a vicious circle.

Day of the Tentacle will never be topped for me...

How recent is recent btw? I haven't really been blown away by a game for a long time, probably not since Operation Flashpoint.

Valkyria Chronicles Became my favourite game ever once i got it it.
it is interesting, deep, and realizes that if you want to get off an anti war message then make us like the poor bloody infantry.
OH and Sabouteur actually knocked down ocarina of time on my list, because that game is really unique with its stealth elemets likable protaginst and a stealth kill attack wich essentially is a tap on the shoulder and a sucker punch.

Mass Effect 2. One of the best games I have ever played in every way (except the planet scanning).

Mario Galaxy ousted Mario 64. There are other games I like but not really examples of ones that completely beats old favourites. Erm, maybe Mount & Blade tops Elite? That doesn't really work.

My top two games are both turn based strategy games from the nineties and nothing in that genre recently has beaten them. Similar story for my favourite adventure games and RPGs.
