No. I always keep at least half a tank.

Yep, I hear it is even better for fuel efficiency anyway.

I personally don't believe that. Even if it was more efficient in one way, it's less efficient in the sense that it's adding significantly more weight to your automobile.

I fill up either when the price of gas plummets or I'm below half a tank and it's convenient for me to go to the gas station. I don't go below like 1/8th of a tank though so I've never actually run out of gas.

I ran out of fuel going down a hill. I stopped at red lights and waited and when they turned green I jumped out and pushed it and jumped back in. The car started to roll down the hill again and it went straight into a petrol station that by my luck happened to be at the bottom or the hill.
Distance traveled 2 Km.
Convenience factor = Extreme

I've run out of gas on a bike, but that's basically a rite of passage in motorcycling. Most of them don't even have fuel gauges.

Done that myself. Unfortunately the fuel system on my bike is apparently finnicky, and it took hours to get it to start again, despite having gas in it.

No. I'm not the kind of fool who thinks it's a good idea to wait until the tank is that low to refill it. Once it gets to halfway or under is when it's time to go refill as soon as possible. I can't think of a single good reason why I would want to let the gas tank of my car get so empty that I might run out of gas.

I have run out of gas exactly once. I was on my way to a gas station and got within 1/2 mile. I think on level ground I could have made it but as I was going up a steep hill it quit on me. Walked the rest of the way to the station, put a $20 deposit on a tiny plastic gas can, walked back to the car, drove back to the gas station. Only lost 30 minutes or so.

Yeah, I decided to always have at least one bottle of Bacardi 151 with me in the car jsut in case the fuel gauge decided to stop working.

Yeah a couple of times, thankfully it's never been on a trip. I'd say it's happened three times, so you'd think I'd know better by now. When it's happened though it's after I tried to start it again after parking, and a gas station was no more than 3 blocks away each time. Now my brother who ran out of gas on the interstate and had to hitch a ride to the gas station 23 miles away, I feel bad for him. It was a faulty gas gauge, and apparently shortly after he thought "You know, it's been a long time since I filled up" it sputtered out. But at this point every car I've owned has problems with the gas gauge, which is when the trip meter becomes handy. Depending on whether I'm driving up hill or down hill, accelerating or braking, turning left or right, the gas gauges have always varied up to a quarter of a tank, so you get used to it. The times I've ran out were because I was a dumbass and knew I had to fill up, but figured I could go just a bit longer. Or because I had no damn money.

No. I tend to watch my odometer more than my fuel gauge, so I know its time to fill up when it clocks at about 220 miles. That's about 2 gallons felt in the tank, which is like 50 or so miles, so I give myself a good buffer.

Well, considering that I don't have a car and I don't drive, no I cannot say I have. I have experienced it with my dad in his car. Thankfully it was a few blocks from our house so managed to push it into a parking space and call for a get gas from another car. Then we just walked home. T'was a good bonding experience, as well, if I recall.

I ran out of gas at 11:30 at night in December in a ridiculous suburb of New Jersey when I was 18. It was absolutely freezing outside, and my girlfriend and I had no coat on since we were kind of depending on the heater to keep us warm. We actually ran out of gas in between an Elk's Lodge and a gas station that had closed for the night. The lodge wouldn't let us stay in there since we were under 21 (I think that they thought we were just trying to sneak into a place that served alcohol). The gas station had cars sitting in their lot since they had a garage there, but all attempts to siphon gas were fruitless; either I was bad at it, or all the cars were suspiciously drained of all their gas.

So my girlfriend and I sat in the cold, huddled under an emergency blanket we had packed in the trunk, for an hour and a half waiting for the AAA guy to get there. Balls.

One time and it was the full fucking package, in the middle of nowhere(no houses for miles), at 3 pm, I was running late, my phone just ran out of juice, and the car start to cough... my jaw just dropped, what the fuck do I do now!

I have, twice.

The first time was deliberate - I have a pretty old car and the fuel gauge is... not the most accurate, so I decided that instead of trusting that I'd find out how many miles I could actually get to a tank and judge when a refill was needed by how many miles I'd done since the last one (I had a can of spare petrol with me, so I knew I wouldn't get stranded).

The second time was totally accidental - the car just ground to a halt on my way home from work (if you're wondering, my wonderfully accurate fuel gauge was still reading about a quarter of a tank at this point). Luckily I was only about half a mile from the nearest petrol station. Less luckily, it was down a pretty steep hill, so although the walk to the petrol station was fine, the walk back nearly killed me.

Took a trip when it was extremely windy and under estimated exactly how much it was going to kill my gas milage. Ran out about a mile away from the closest gas station. Pushed it about a 1/2 mile up to where my buddy had stopped. Since he has a slightly larger tank he went up to find the gas station which was pretty much just around the corner and came back with a gas can. I'm just glad it didn't happen further away.
