I once had someone from these forums tell me they hoped my family would burn to death for a comment I made about a youtube video.

If that person is still around and reading this... fuck you. Seriously, you're a horrible human being with a crippled soul and a broken moral compass. What an asshole.

Nope, the best I get are insults.

The other day I got called a stupid dumb idiot because apparently I shouldn't have switched the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer round down to bronze from silver. The guy was spouting off at me because he thought there was no reason for people to play bronze.

I had my reasons.

1.) I had been searching for a bronze match, found one, and the leader switched it to silver at the last second, which I didn't notice until we got in the game and the other two teammates went down quickly(obviously too low level) and the leader abandoned us by leaving. I held the team through to wave 4, but that was it.

2.)When the game promoted me to leader, as I was switching to bronze(which I intended to play to begin with) we gained the player that started ripping on me for changing it. I changed it because of course the other two players couldn't handle silver. Got the other two to kick the nutcase, then we got another player and had some fun on bronze.

For the record, I can play and take silver, but it is hard to get a good and supportive team to play silver(Too many "lone wolves" that are just there for kills and not helping with objectives). But most of the time, I like to play bronze because I don't exactly find it fun to do challenging things all the time. I don't think I will try Gold any time soon, not until I got my good weapons up to level ten and have stocked up a fair amount of high level equipment.

I'm pretty sure I have but I can't recall specifics. If I remember properly it was when playing a strategy game online. It may have been Men of War.

You know, some people really don't like Calumon, as if the little fella offends their every moral and belief that exists within them.

Also Youtube comments.

Calumon: Some people can get really mad too. I didn't even know most of the words they used. :S

Sure have, by someone I actually knew and met in person. He and his GF who I was friends with but not like best friends or anything broke up for the fourth (and seems last) time. When she said it on Facebook I commented saying I hope she was ok, you know just being supportive. Suddenly I get a message from him saying he knows where I live, began insulting me, then threatened to kill me. This was completely out of the blue, and also hilarious since he spells like a five year old and I knew for a fact he didn't know where I live.

I have received a fair bit. I have had 11 death threats against me in person, and numerous threats online either through messaging or headset. I usually respond to the online ones by making fun of them as they lack 2 out of 3 factors for immanent danger (Ability and Opportunity), in person however I cannot as that would be unprofessional.

Best way to deal with threats is laugh at them and then the person who made them, unless the threat is credible in which case follow the above steps and charge them after.

I've been threatened with every violent act imaginable. I don't think I've ever taken it seriously.

I think people take threads and "bullying" online way to seriously these days. It is physically impossible to harm someone via the internet, and also impossible to force anyone to put up with your presence.

If someone is upsetting you, /ignore /report and move on... if you are in a setting where you can't do either of those things, its probably a pretty pointless place to be anyway. I don't know of a forum without an ignore feature, let alone a game. Any reputable forum, server or game will also have people to report such things too.

If all else fails..pull plug, threat gone!

Of course, if someone comes to your home or knows where you live and threatens you, sure, take it seriously.. but otherwise... it's just a lol.

I remeber back when I played WoW (the wasted days) there was a guy who would just sit in trade chat and be a complete ass to everyone, so one day I called him out. Apparently I got under his skin because he told me to "Beware the ides of March, kid." He then proceeded to rather graphically describe how he would kill my family in front of me, and then suffocate me with a plastic bag. The kind gent of a day or two of ban, and came right back. After talking to multiple GMs and finding out that they would do nothing, I shelled out the ridiculous amount for a server transfer and name change and I haven't heard from him yet.

I guess I'm still under his skin because over two years later when I'm on alts on the old server I still see him in trade chat insinuating that I enjoy sexual exploits with rather large hairy men. I love the internet. <3

Yes, aw the beauty known as Xbox Live. Basically I was messing with a guy so bad on CoD and we were in game-chat. He got so mad, he was literally screaming how he wanted to kill and torture me for existing. Hell, he even asked where I lived, which I was giving him my info.... but my friend cut me off for safety. Probably for the best, heh.

Besides that? Eh, just empty threats.

Here and there. If its on a digital medium I wouldn't take it too seriously thats what the block button is for right. However, if you ever find them in the mail with your bills then you might wanna sweat a little.

I'm sure that I HAVE, but I can't remember a specific instance. I can almost guarantee that I have, though.

I'd never take such a threat seriously, though. People on the internet are a freaking joke.

Surprisingly no.

I'm quite cheeky with folk, I rarely take anyone seriously, I constantly mock people and I can be quite rude.

Yet not once have I ever been threatened.

I feel like i'm missing out.
Same here, I really wish I got at least one. Life is so unfair :(

It actually happens often on youtube. They would message me how they wanted me to die, so I usually reply with a 'Thanks for watching and liking the video ^^'.or 'Thanks for upping the view count ^^'. One time I responded back with 'Yes! Yes! I will marry you. I should have known by all the love letters and gifts that you were head over heels for me. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone how you cried after watching Free Willy." Extreme enthusiasm and positivity tends to drive them away.

I've had my life threatened off the internet and was almost sexually assaulted so words like 'you suck die' on the internet are not going to faze me.

Well I had someone threaten to come kidnap, rape, and kill me if I didn't meet him and have sex "voluntarily". This was back when real name use on msn wasn't uncommon and I was young and stupid, so he actually was able to figure out where I lived and email me the details of that and what he was going to do to me.

I wasn't stupid, I told him I wanted to speak on the phone. I taped the call where he repeated the threat when I "seemed to be trying to back out of meeting". He got 2 years less a day.
Thats what I should of done. When I was 14 I had someone find me online and pretend to be my friend. Then one day he started sending me pictures of "himself" and wanted me to take a bus to see him. When I said no he sent down a hailstorm of death threats. I ended up blocking him.
