Self-explanatory really. Have you ever won any major contests/competetitions/gameshows and if so what was the prize? And obviously I'm not talking about winning something like a match in Lol, I'm talking about winning a sweepstakes/lottery jackpot/tournament with a significant prize. Me personally, I've never won anything and I only know one person whose won anything and that's my uncle who won something like 30,000 in the lottery once. I feel like its very rare and so I wonder how many of you, Escapists, have accomplished such a feat/ had so much luck.

3.500? and 15.000? on two separate trivia show appearances. Minus 35% (I think) tax on such winnings, minus another 1.000? income tax next year because our tax system is incredibly stupid and taxes you twice in cases like this.

That was six years ago, though and the economy went down the S-bend in the meantime, so not really much remains from that.

nope, but one of my college friends was a contestant on the show "where in the world is Carmen sandiago?." He didn't make it all the way to the end though.

I never win anything that requires luck. My father on the other hand won money every time he went to a casino.

One of my short stories was selected to print in some crappy zine back in the 90s.

While I honored in French in highschool, I also received an award for being the only senior taking freshman Japanese and doing so well I was being given 2nd year stuff as extra credit.

Sadly even though I also took 2 years of ASL I can barely communicate anything in any language other than English. I can get the gist of a lot of French, and by extension some Spanish. Latin based languages ftw!

Since I don't really enjoy competition, I rarely have an opportunity to win or lose anything.

Wow this is ironic... only a little after posting this I won a free Bioshock Infinite code... from now on whenever I enter a contest I'm gonna have to post a threat about it; it brings good luck!

I'm a pretty lucky guy. I'm surprised The Fortune never came up in a tarot reading. However, while I've won things or achieved things that may not seem entirely plausible on the surface, I never tried this large-scale.

In the 8th grade every student was forced to participate in a science fair. I did some half arsed project determining how much torque different type of wood could withstand before snapping. I had won first place, but that's not saying much considering the runner ups were "how absorbent are paper towels?" and "how long does it take cereal to become soggy in milk?"

I won a few literary contests in high school, maybe three or four. All of them netted crappy certificates except for the one where I got $200 worth of books in one bookshop. And I also won some money the first and only time I've been to the horse track, that was quite something.

So far, only twice that I had "won" (as in coming in first place)-

I got the closest numbers in how many dries peas in a jar contest in High School. Good thing I used my favourite numbers 147 (don't ask me what it's my favourite numbers) and the exact peas in that jar was 152.
My prize was just a box of sweet which was fine by me.

I came in first in this contect in Geography class. The contest was just make a minibook on Volcano. I think I was the only one in the class who had used Horrible Geography on Volcano as references and combine that with my skill drawing skill were probably the reason why I won (despite my cover was unoriginal, just an image of a volcano).
The teacher handed me a £5 off voucher to spend at this store as my prized since I used it to get Pokemon Yellow cheaper so that was a good prized.

When I was younger I was into the LEGO series Bionicles. During the campaign for the new Toa reveal there was a contest where you would figure out the "homebase" of the new Toa. There were something like 4000 fourth-prize winners, and I was amongst them. Kind of neat - I can only imagine how many other kids played.

Recently I won a huge basket full of special types of beer by guessing almost the exact weight of 4 female bank clerks at our local bank office, during some infoday they organised.

Other than that I once won some sort of "whodunnit" game where you had to find the perpetrator of a fictive murdercase through some tips. Got me a free novel.

I also won a poetry competition in high school once and I had a knack for drawing winning numbers out of a jar when I was a kid.

A writing contest or two. Easiest $150 I've ever made.

I wrote 2 poems in barely any time (less than 10 minutes each, one was rushed before school the same day)and they both got published in books. I didn't get any personal gains from them, though, nobody did. They were both shitty by any standard.

Well I did some computer work for my old boss and charged a rate four times higher than what my old job paid for the exact same sort of work. That certainly felt like winning to me.
Easiest $300 I ever made.

Well, about 14 years ago, I was the state champion of Martial Arts sparring. Got a cool jacket for it and everything. And, by extension, in order to become the state champion, I had to win a couple tournaments. So there's that.

And on the slightly less-impressive side of the scale, when Toy Story first came out, my local movie theater had a coloring contest. I won, and I won a Mr Potato Head toy. That was cool.

I won an Ipod by random drawing. One of two kids out of over 1k to receive one...it lasted for years until I believe it broke...

I'm looking at it right now :C
