I am an avid cosplayer and as a result I tend to spend more than I should on costumes. But several times I have worn pieces of costumes as normal cloths so I get more use out of them and I feel totally fine with it.
I wonder why this is looked down upon, video game and anime characters often have way cooler clothes than you can get at the store.
for example, I spent $130 on Simon's longcoat from Gurren Lagann and I wear it in public sometimes as well as Alucard's Duster from Hellsing, an Organization XIII coat and Nero's Jacket from Devil May Cry 4 just because I think it looks way cooler than most things I own even if I get a few looks, but sometimes I find other fans of the series.

Simon's coat-it's a higher quality than this one

Alucard's duster-Well this one is cheating since I had a red graduation gown and customized it

Nero's jacket
I guess I'm a big fan of long coats
so does anyone else on this site do this? (I don't do it that much, only for little things like going to the movies and mall)

Well uhh...there's these two socially awkward kids, one wears a trenchcoat and pirate hat, the other wears a cape...but that's all for everyday wear. I personally haven't worn a costume since Halloween of about '04.

i dont think i have been in a costume in...10 years, at fastelavn (kinda like Danish halloween, but instead of begging strangers for candy we smash open barrels and pretend theres a cat inside of it, and whomever kills the pretend cat gets a crown, Denmark, FUCK YEAH) but since most costumes are just normal pieces of clothing when separated i can see why people would wear, but i wouldn't put the examples you chose in that category, dont get me wrong, i love long coats too, and honestly im kinda cosplaying a noir detective, but with all those colours, symbols and plastic on them it starts to look like you have lost your grasp on reality.

edit: NM, if you paid more than 100 bucks you should get your money worth, heck i will play a buggy and terrible game for 10 hours or walk around in incredibly thick and warm coat during a heatwave just so i dont feel ripped off,.

I wanted to walk around my college campus on Halloween dressed the 10th Doctor. To this day I wish that my mom didn't have half control of my bank account at the time. She took out just enough money so that I couldn't buy the suit and duster, but still had enough to buy food.

She told me since I am 5ft 4ins, it wouldn't look good on me. She wouldn't put the money back even when I told her that the place I was ordering it from would tailor it to my size if I gave them measurements.

So, I bought a sonic screwdriver and psychic paper instead. I had to walk around imagining that I was the Doctor in disguise.

It's not really something I would do.

I wear whatever I own and feel comfortable in, and I don't own any of the stuff you have.

Hehe. That used to be me. I wore a cloak damn near every day, at least when it was cold. Cloaks are like mittens for your body. I only really stopped because they were a pain to drive in.

If I see cosplay in real life on any day other than October 31, and I'm not within five miles of a convention center, my main thought is not "hey, cool" (even if I like the game whose character they're dressed up as.) My main thought is "Christ, someone call the West Hills wagon," (the mental institution in town) "we got a live one here."

Well, if work clothes don't count, then no o_O
Though for a while I went around wearing a bowler hat like a fedora... but don't know if that counts or not >.>

I haven't, as:

A) I don't own any costumes.
B) The ones I have worn are not comfy. Why would I wear them as everyday clothes?

Totally gonna get a parka, a Plumtree shirt and Green and White sweatbands. I'll be Scott Pilgrim and only a few people will probably know. This is a good idea.

I've worn my 11th Dr.who pants and shoes around, I also keep the sonic screw driver in my backpack at all times. And I've found the bow tie in my pocket more than once.
