So easy run of the mill question . Have you ever competed in videogame tournament? Or would you like to compete in a tournament?

If you have what game was it and how did it go?

If you haven't but want to, why haven't you done so yet?

If you haven't and don't want to, why not?

Personally i have never competed in a real tournament , but i would like to . I'm thinking that the next big fighting game to come out i will get on release and practice till my hands go numb just to be able to stand a chance in a real competition . It's the kind of event that gets me all kind of excited , just watching some of these people compete with expertise impresses me a whole lot , i couldn't even imagine how excited i would be competing ( as long as i didn't lose in the first round then i would feel like a total failure ) . But it is in my goals to compete in one in the future ( not necessarily win but at least compete ).

Your turn

Never have, never will. I have never dedicated the time and effort to play a game "professionally". Once I have to practice it, it ceases to be fun and becomes a job. Some people only have fun if they're winning, or only like a game if it's overly complex, or only enjoy it if it's thumb-numbingly challenging. So those people can play in their tournaments all they want.

I'll be playing in a cage match, all items, all characters goofy fight with my friends. And I didn't have to practice a day to do it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to dedicate my time to something worthwhile.

I would like to go to a tournament but there rarely any in London (or I'm just looking in the wrong places).

if I could I would go to a street fighter 3, ssf4 ae or blaze blue tourney or if I'm really lucky a bomber-man tournanent(lol).

haven't played and want to.
but the thought of someone managing to get 20 nerds in my county to play together is impossible.

I have. Multiple times.

DotA, aka Defense of the Ancients. In case you haven't heard of it, it's the 'prequel' to that new RTS game valve is developing. Its not well known because its essentially just a popular custom map in warcraft 3, but it's had a hell of a long development time (6-7 years) and the community is pretty massive now.

Last tournament I played was for the WCG qualifiers in my country. We won, but in the end the sponsors decided they could only send ONE team to represent us abroad. So they sent the Counterstrike team instead of the DotA one. A bittersweet victory, but it was an amazing experience.

Lots of preliminary matches across cities that led up to the national finals. Very competitive environment with tons of players, interesting strategies and varied games. Plus I adore those moments in games when you're playing exceptionally well and everyone's eyes are fixated on your screen. And the thunderous applause when you pull off something sweet in the heat of battle.

Pretty much played for nearly 20 hours straight on the final day of the tournament. Was a fun experience. I'd love to still play competitively but my team disbanded.

Oh well.

Nope... I've never competed, nor would I ever, probably, 'cos I freely admit, I'm a shit gamer.

One of my friends used to be a pro-CSS player when he was in middle-school (he was the team's AWPer). Never won anything as far as I know, but his team did do quite well at most tournies they participated in.

Played with him at uni, but predictably, he wiped the floor with everyone and going online was a damned joke for obvious reasons.

Unreal Tournament was a real one.

Competing against teams all over the world to try and top the league.

Our team came third every damn time. There was a German and Korean team that kept coming second and first respectively.

Those Koreans were incredibly hard to beat. In 4 years we only beat them 3 times.

Fear my average Dawn of War:Dark Crusade skills contestants!

I'd love to compete, just for fun.

Yup. Twice. The first was a Crysis tournament. Came in second for that one.

The other was spread over three games, over three consoles. The games were Halo 3 for XBOX, Soulcaliber 4 for PS3, and Mario Kart for Wii. Came in fourth for that one. The finalists finished off with Pacman. PACMAN! Made me wish I made it to the finals.

Of the few games I play that could possibly be played tournament-style, it would be interesting to try but beyond the experience of playing with other people it'd be pointless. I can beat the computer (most of the time), but against another human I tend to get my ass handed to me.
