Have you ever wrote a fanfic? And if yes, why (and for what)?

Hello!

I have a bit of complication here that I wish I could write a fanfic but I'm treasuring canon(s) to much to mess with it and don't have so far any amazing story to tell. So it was always a very curious thing to me why people write fanfics, what drives them (aside of PWP ones, where it looks sort of obvious).

So did you ever write a fanfic? And if yes then why it was? And for what universe it was?

I'm just very much curious :)

Thank you!

I have written a few fanfics. Mine however were set in some f2p mmo's i was playing at the time. Mostly trying to keep the npc's and monster(plus lore) as close as possible to the original. Though sometimes i just used the world. For characters I mostly used players i knew i played a lot with (kind of knowing how their personality was).

Also i wrote them for myself, if other people liked it that was good too. I just liked the world so much i wanted to just set a story in that setting.

ps. The mmo's were fly for fun and dream of mirror online

I've done a few thins...

- I wrote a Cosmic Marvel fanfiction one time with Super Skrull as the main protagonist. It was fun, but I never got around to finishing it.

- As a kid I used to make comic fanfictions.

- I've been running a Mass Effect tabletop game for a few years now. With all the writing that's gone into and the fact that my sister and friend collaborated on a spin-off comic strip of it I'd consider it a fanfiction at this point.

I've written a few Halo Machinimas that I never got around to finishing, and funnily enough I predicted the events that lead up to Halo 4 almost perfectly moment-to-moment. I did it to explain why there were elites as bad guys in my videos. They did it so you could kill more elites. Funny how things match up.

I've a written a short story about Bioshock (big surprise huh) but most of my writings are original, I like creating my own universe and histories.

I've written a MLP/Sonic crossover fanfic on FimFiction. It's received really good reviews despite my bad spelling and grammar.
I'm quite pleased with it, but I want to improve it, and I've never mentioned it to my friends.

I've written a Valkyria Chronicles fanfic for Fanfiction.net a few years back.

It was centered around two of the side characters which you can have on your squad in-game. They had an interesting backstory behind them and I felt like expanding upon them via writing a fanfic about them.

I was able to finish it, and I had generally positive reviews. Although a part of me can't help but think it could have been a lot better.

I wrote a few in my childhood days. They were my first stories ever written and they were based off of various video game franchises. The first story I ever wrote was a Pokemon tale, and after that a Megaman Legends story. At the time I didn't know what fanfic was so I just considered it a normal thing to do, but after those few stories, I decided it was more fun creating my original ideas than twisting and subverting someone elses idea to fit my tastes. Ever since then, I have been writing my own material, trying to get published and what-not. I am not a big fan of fan-fic, but I do credit fan fic to being the first stories I had ever written.

Getting good reviews on Fanfiction.net isn't exactly hard. Unless it's some sort of blight on humanity, it'll get at least a few positive reviews.

Personally, my favorite review I've received was one from a Beta Reviewer who said that my story "was either going to be a masterpiece or terrible". I can't think of much better praise for one's first story than that.

OT: I've got a couple Pokemon fanfics right now. One's on permanent Hiatus and the other I'm working on revamping right now.

Not fanfiction. FimFiction.
Got featured as well, quite happy.

Oh, my mistake. Hadn't heard of FiMFiction. Can't really Criticize a userbase I've never had any contact with.

I wrote a backstory to a few MMO characters I had made, but I got a bit obsessed by the lore and it ended up running to about 5000 words. It's still on my computer somewhere, but I'm pretty sure as a piece of writing it's pure unfiltered crap.

I've found that the best bit of Skyrim and those sorts of world-building games is coming up with backstories and justifications for my characters; The stage of character customisation I always take longest at is the naming, despite me having a standard fantasy name I use for all my characters (with a tweak here and there to suit the style of game.)

I still do write. My shtick is crossovers. I've done Star Wars/Halo Halo/Mass Effect and Mass Effect/Fallout. Two of them managed to get on the TV Tropes fan fic recommendation page, not to toot my own horn.

I wrote a Pokemon fanfic one time, which I thought was quite good. It was reasonably long, the grammar and spelling was sound, and I thought that the story and characters were pretty interesting. So I posted it on fanfiction.net It got one review from someone who proclaimed it to be the worst piece of writing he had ever read. Since then I've never shared my writing pieces.
I dunno if it was actually really bad, or the fanfiction community has really high standards, or if I just got a troll review.

Technically the mythos is public domain, so I'm not sure it does.

OT: Currently in the process of writing a (hopefully creepy) Teen Titans one as writing practice.

That's essentially what fanfic is IMO - a gym for aspiring writers.

Yes, indeed. I can say that my story isn't exacly fanfic either because I can just make it so be "inspired" by Lovecraft works.
Maybe I will posted later when I leave my work place.
