So yeah, the Silent Hill HD collection is going to have a new voice cast to replace the old and a preview has been given. And it's disgusting. Seriously, while I would have missed the old cast I would have embraced the new ones had they been genuinely better (which wouldn't have been hard) but it would appear that the HD collection will actually be making the games worse.

Honestly I don't get it. I don't get why they have to redo the voices at all let alone do it this half-assed.

I dunno, at first, I was against new voice actors... But then when I thought about it, the voice acting in SH2-3 was pretty awful to begin with.

EDIT: Just watched the video. Yeah it seems off, but it's mostly because the voices are dominating scene, there's going to be editing done and it'll be better.

The only person from the two games I wish didn't have a new voice actor is Angela. Her voice acting was spotty at some points, but she really nailed it 110% at others. Like the scene when she's lying infront of a mirror holding a knife, and the burning stair case... Man that chick was creepy.

Major?

Ok that was not as bad as I expected, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn is awesome so I approve.

Well, it's certainly not great voice acting, but it's a marked improvement on the original.

I'm hoping to GOD that they will edit that when it does come out because they were terrible, Maria sounds like a drag queen.

I love Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, she's awesome, but so far I'm not impressed. The original VAs grew on me and I liked them, I thought they fit really well, and I'm still skeptical about why they felt the need to do this.

I wanna know what the final version sounds like before I make any decisions about this, yes I can be petty.

I don't know they seem out of place for me, it sounds like its being dubbed really. SH2 VO wasn't perfect but it seemed to flow better than that. I guess i can grow to love it but it wasn't like the VO was bad originally, RE1 could do with a new VO but Silent hill 2 and 3 doesn't really.

Fan boy response: AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ITS HORRID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEE!!!!!!!

Is that Troy Baker as James? I'm not entirely sure, but it sort of does sound like him. And I think Mary Elizabeth will be a pretty awesome Maria. Liam O'brien as that other guy will certainly be interesting.

Don't really see anything wrong with the voices. If they seem off now, I don't really think that it will be that way in the final product, especially once you get some music in there.

I thought she was really good too. Felt really creepy in a good way. But still, I don't think her new voice actress will do too bad of a job.

That actually wasn't too bad. It still needs a lot of editing work but just as performances they sound pretty on-par with the originals. The wonky writing and imperfect acting in the original improved the experience in an odd way by making it more dreamlike and surreal, and it looks like that hasn't really changed. Thank god they didn't rewrite it.

Granted, I don't really know why they're replacing them at all (Short of some rumors about not paying the original actors), but I'm still just too happy that this set actually exists.

To me, Maria sounds ok, Eddie sounds like some support actor from the Godfather and, needless to say, completely out of place, and James, who is supposed to be confused, lost and vulnerable, sounds like fucking Sean Bean. It's definitely a downgrade and, unless things change drastically, I'll stick with my PS2 copies of the games.

Pretty impressive. Every performance actually sounds worse than in the original. There's no emotion whatsoever. The voice acting in the original wasn't particularly good but this is awful. I wonder how nobody managed to notice that instead of "fixing" the voice acting they were fucking it up more.

It's a joke.

Duh.

Edit: Just read the YouTube comments, can't believe how many people are buying into this. It's almost surreal.

how are you sure it's a joke?
I'm pretty convinced the new silent hill team to over do the voice acting, turning it from slightly off in a way that enhanced the surreality to just plain boring voice acting mimic-ing 99% of the other games' voice acting.

Edit:
Voices weren't BAD , mind. Although James should sounds WAAAAY different, cause he's supposed to be a flawed human, and all i see in New James is Mr.Testosterone, and not MR.Flawed Main Character.

The Eddie voice in particular didn't feel right. They don't really sound interested in what they are saying anymore. I know the voice acting wasn't great in SH2 and 3, but I think that because it was just passable VA it felt more real. Like these weren't actors, but just people.

James's new voice sounds alright, but it doesn't fit the mood. Guy Cihi made him sound polite and at times a little creepy, but I can live with the change.

The new Eddie sounds more like a depressed drunk than a psychotic teenager, but I could also live with this.

But what the Hell happened to Monica Horgan? The new voice actor they found sounds way too old to play Mary and Maria. I could live with the changes in the other two voices, but Monica Horgan fit Mary and Maria perfectly.

I'm glad the games are coming to the 360 after all, but I hope there's a way to play with the original voice-acting.
