Over the last few days I've went back to it for the first time since before Cataclysm and I'm levelling a new warrior.

It does feel like it's being dumbed down/streamlined [delete as applicable] with stuff like the dungeon finder and being able to use fast travel hubs without every having been to them. Why call it 'World' of Warcraft when the game is actively encouraging you to skip the world?

Pre-Cata, Tirisfal Glades was one of my very favourite zones. Post-Cata it felt, again, too streamlined. I finished up there and went straight to Ghostlands for some Burning Crusade era goodness. I love that zone.

After I'm done there... we'll see. I've never stuck out WoW long enough to reach the raiding, mainly because everything I've ever read about it tells me I'd hate it. I doubt this time will be any different.

I played it firstly about 3 years ago when i got a battle chest and lich king for christmas, aswell as 2 months play time, It didn't go so well becuase my pc broke after less than a week -.- (I mean full on broke aswell, fried motherboard yay).

Fast forward to when cataclysm came out, I got it , revived my account and set out as an undead rogue. got bored after 3 months of play, at level 54 I could not be bothered to play anymore, besides I had work to get on with, it destroyed my work life by sucking me in for a while. So yes I got rid of it while I could.

I just dont do MMORPG's, I tried Age of conan aswell and I did actually find it better, more fun and immersive, but I gave up on that eventually aswell.

Oh btw, who the hell revived this thread?!

About a year ago. I played some Cataclysm but the very limited questing just put me off again. I know this also is somewhat the case with TOR but at least there the conversations make up for it. Things like the Dungeon and Raid finder were the nail in the coffin for me.

Blizzard realized most money could be made off of anti-social players and housewifes buying pets. Since I'm neither, it's not the game for me anymore.

I'm sort of on a break.
I do that every once in a while.

Playing Star Wars The Old Republic now.
Yes, it's a lot like WoW, but its the parts that aren't that makes it fun again.

I played all during vinalla and a bit in burning crusade. Then I quit because of Imblance in PVP which I was really into at the time. Ironically I went to warhammer which had an imbalance that got worse over time. There were other reasons though like my guild never having room for me in raids and having little to do when I couldnt raid but mostly it was the imbalance of PVP.

I returned to WoW when cataclysm came out and leveled a new mage from 1-85. I got into a raiding guild but I wasnt really into PVP anymore. At first it was fun taking out new bosses and forming new strategies but then we moved up to heroic mode. When we began heroic blackwing descent the encounters werent harder as much as they were more scripted and padded out. I didnt really feel like there was more challenge and one night I questioned, why didnt we have a few more dungeons requiring lesser gear instead of this move from normals to heroics. That was the first time I came to the realization that Cataclysm in terms of quality and quantity of content was less of an expansion and more like DLC. Ultimately I grew bored with the game because heroics didnt provide a real challenge to me and I felt like there was little to do in the game besides level an alt

However the straw that broke the camels back was when Firelands was being released and Blizzard announced that they would be making the normal boss fights much easier. Let me be clear, Im fine with people wanting a casual or easy difficulty for those that just want the experience of raiding and dont want to go watch videos and read strategies to take down a boss. I did have a problem with normals becoming that because it showed Blizzard catering to the people who want easy loot, not real raiders, not me.

I left the game in disgust then and havnt returned. As much as I wanted to experience Pandera I doubt the next expansion will get me back as long as blizzard keep catering to the players who refuse to put in the time to earn the rewards of raiding

I feel the same way with my experience with it so far. The story and conversations aren't perfect, but the fact that you can engage in Bioware style roleplaying as a group is a lot more fun than I had imagined it would be. What irks me the most however is just how similar it really is to WoW. I don't mind TOO much that it borrows from its design philosophy, but if I can navigate every aspect of the game without difficulty due to familiarity with WoW I think their is a problem. There is just way too much copy/paste going on and it makes me sad. Some say, "if its not broke, don't fix it"... I like to think their are creative alternatives they could have considered for many aspects of the game.

I haven't played since a little after Uldaman (sp?) came out. It got stale. And way too easy.

I think the regular high end dungeons should be easy and provide decent blues. Then the Heroics should be fairly tough and provide really good blues, with maybe 1 epic on the last boss. Then RAIDs should be really hard and even with full top end epics not be some easy ass stroll, except for really good guilds or whatever.

They also allowed the scrubs into everything. No more getting keyed for heroics or raids. On one hand, I certainly see why and I think it's great opening more content to the more casual gamers, but on the other it made it painful for people that wanted to find a good group and not wipe because half the party is in lvl 78 greens.

Anyway, for me, since it was so much easier I was able to get all the good Heroic loot and PuG most of the raids to get all the epic epics too. I had a prot warrior with like 39k HP (barricade of eternity) of the a and a dps deathknight using Black Ice and usually was top 3 dps even in 25 man raids.

I also didn't like how unbalanced PVP became. It was really fun at lvl 60 and even lvl 70 in the BC expansion... lvl 80 PVP was stupid IMO.

So then I turned to crafting. Mining + Black smithing on my warrior... I rarely mined though, just used it for titanite. According to the stats page I averaged 3200g income per day. Basically I bought all the stupidly cheap saronite from the farmers, then crafted all the lvl 78 gear - blue quality swords, shields, axes, daggers, maces, dps plate, tank plate, pally plate etc plus as many titanite epics as I could. At any given time I had around 100-150 pieces on the AH... I ended up with a Mechano Hog for both my characters plus a Traveller's Tundra Mammoth for my warrior. I quit with 20k gold on him, which was going to be for a second mammoth.

Anyway, at that point I thought - fuck this, I beat the game. And I am a much happier person without MMOs.
