I have been boycotting SONY for the past decade. Not a cent of my money goes to it for either hardware, software, or media.

Fucking Microsoft points! I have had my 360 for almost 4 years now, I've had live for 1 and everywhere i go i get "Buy Microsoft points, your life will be better!" Well fuck off Microsoft, I'm never getting that sheet! I waited until the game of the year edition to get the dlc for Fallout 3 and I'm waiting for the Ultimate edition to get them for New Vegas. And i will wait until i die! You'll have to put those Microsoft Points into my cold, dead account!

All hail Princess Luna, Mistress of the Night!

Guess you could say I've been boycotting the Swedish game retailers for two years now. Only buy games from the UK since the prices here are so high. Bought two games here second hand though.

A few weeks ago I took a uni entrance exam, and was going to reward myself by going to the movies that evening. The Tintin movie had just come out the day before, and I really wanted to watch it. Unfortunately I only had 3 options: Swedish Dubbed 3D, Swedish Dubbed, and English 3D. After Kung Fu Panda 2 (and my first 3D-induced hadache), I decedied to take my own "3D boycott" seriously and not let myself be forced to pay for 3D simply because there were no other options for a movie. So I watched "Attack The Block" instead, which was a really good movie.

I don't exactly "Boycott" McDonalds, but I stopped going there several years ago because there are so many other fast food placed that, while arguably more/less healthy, at least don't have food that tastes like plastic.

I'm not sure what OP meant by "succeed" with boycotts, but I'm assuming it was about wether we stuck to it and didn't cave in to pressure. Because honestly, since both 3D and McDonalds are still around, I haven't "succeeded" in ending either business practices.

I've boycotted eating all products by Cadbury and Kraft, in response to Kraft buying Cadbury out then closing a factory less than a month after saying they'll guarantee it stays open, costing about 300 people their jobs.

Apple...

Of course I have no interest what so ever in their shitty products. So it's kinda too easy...
Does it still count?

Avatar, never seen it, never wanted to see it and I never will.

The show or the movie? Loved the show, the movie, god I wish I had followed your lead. So they were blue. Whooopidy doo! lets give James Cameron millions of dollars for that hog wash.

I have never bought an Apple product. The whole cult vibe I get from them gives me the wiggens and the explicit message that I am simple renting what I paid for from them ticks me off something fierce.

I'm not sure if it counts as boycotting if you don't change your usual habits. So I haven't ever boycotted anything that I previously consumed.

I haven't bought anything in Dunnes Stores in Ireland since 2008, simply because of the way they treat the people who work for them and the people who work with them

I meant the film, the moment I first saw a trailer for it I just said 'No' out loud, and the more I heard about it and the more money this shitty film was making, the less I wanted to see it.

The show on the other hand, I never watched it. I lived off Cartoon Network, I used to love Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, Ed Edd and Eddy, Xiaolin Showdown, Teen Titans, and occasionally flicking over to Nick Toons for The Fairly Odd Parents, I was a pretty sad 16 year old. Actually I still try and watch those shows online, so I'm a pretty sad 23 year old too.

No, because people who boycott are fucking idiots and quite often have little to no valid reasoning behind their words.

I hear people boycott a company and miss out on great games (like quite a few in this thread) solely because of some stupid minor change or company policy. And the stupidity of this boggles my mind.

Halo.
Anything produced or affiliated with L'Oreal and Donna Karen - simply because of the disgusting animal cruelty that goes into their work all in the name of vanity and Donna Karen is just a heartless monster.

I've never made a melodramatic song and dance about initiating a boycott, but there have been some games or companies I've stopped patronising after unsatisfactory experiences.

For instance, after buying and being thorughy unimpressed with Dead Rising and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, I haven't bought another game in those series, also after a sting of shoddy products and poor customer service from Sony, I haven't bought another Sony product since my 6th and final PS2 died.

However, does it really count as a boycott if you just don't want it in the first place?

Although my experience with Sony has made me not want to buy from them again, the main principle behind my avoidance is self-serving, i.e. I don't want to spend my money on products that I think are inferior, prone to failing and come with poor, accusatory customer service.

Sony have yet to release a product that I want, but hypothetically, if they did release a new console, TV, camera or phone that was unequivocally the best one of those products that I could buy (and I needed), then I may upgrade my stance of not buying their products from self-serving disinterest to principled sacrifice... although my resentment of the "Sony Guarantee" would still mean it was self-serving.

I suppose buying Fair Trade products is almost like a boycott of all non-Fair Trade products, but until you make a big song and dance about it, it's not really an official boycott.

Past boycotts:
GTA IV (due to securom, and not wanting it for console.)
Battlefield 3 (due to ORIGIN, and not wanting it for console.)

Will boycott:
X-Com reboot (due to it not being true x-com, due to hating the 1950's setting, etc.)
Syndicate reboot (deus ex bad guy edition, not true syndicate, call of duty crowd BS.)
All future ORIGIN products.
