Just wondering if any of my fellow escapists have read any of the Lord of the Rings books(or any of Tolkien's work) and if so did you enjoy it?

I just started The Fellowship of the Ring yesterday and I thinks its great so far
your turn :D
Read the Silmarillion. It is a prequel to all the Lord of the Rings books. It is primarily the story of the first elves and the history. It's a real good book, I enjoyed it. Tolkien and his son Christopher, wrote a lot of prequel stories to fill in the history of Middle Earth. Pick any of them up. Tolkien's son did a great job picking up where his dad left off.

I've read the LoTR series maybe three times and The Hobbit maybe three times as well. Tolkien was a genius and he's my favorite author followed by the late greats Michael Crichton and Robert Jordan

I first read all three books back-to-back when I was about 10, although I remember struggling with The Two Towers, and I've re-read them countless times since them. I love them.

I'm still on the first Lord of the Rings book, but I've read the Hobbit and loved it.

Yes I read all 3 books, later Hobbit, then Silmarilion, then... I don't know what it was called, unfinished stories or some such. Anyway I enjoyed the trilogy greatly (read it before I watched the movies), Hobbit felt slightly childish (but that was the idea) as for tha later books that was just some insight into the lore of Middle Earth, not as enjoyable read to me but it was interesting to find out about it's "history".

Nope, I haven't read any. I've seen all the movies but I can't bring myself to read the books. The movies were just mediocre to me (really liked the first one, though), plot and all. It's just not my cup of tea.
