OK, so last week i found out that Metal Gear Solid and MGS2 were ported to the pc, so I went looking for it. Much to my dismay, it was not on steam, and amazons cheapest version was $20 plus shipping (this was for a used copy, a new copy was $160)for a ps1 era game that I was really just curious about.
Soooo i went onto a pirating website and downloaded it, figuring it wouldn't be a big deal, (again old game). Well, I tried playing it to no avail, and then recieved a call the next day from my internet provider, long story short, they said they would cancel my account if i tried playing it again.

So my question is, is there a place where i can legaly get a copy of metal gear solid without paying as much, or is it worth just biting the proverbial bullet and buying the $20 hard copy?

also no I dont have a playstation 1, 2, or 3, so buying the console version isnt much of an option.

please help if possible

1) Piracy is not looked upon favourably here at the Escapist, I would advise you not to mention that you do it. (Or better yet, don't do it)
2) If your ISP really did call you up to say they knew you had pirated stuff, did you mention to them you were thinking of reporting them to the police? In most countries, your ISP snooping on what you do online without a legal request from the police is a major breach of privacy laws.

yes they did, but this is more of a "i want to find this game" than a "the ISP dictatorship is crushing my soul" game, if theres a place i can get a digital copy for cheaper where would it be?

Im curious to know if its a miswording, or a misunderstanding of how the tech works or if there is some how once youve downloaded a game that your ISP has any idea that you install/play it considering theres no way for them to know seeings as any crime involved has already been comitted.

Yes for a game thats not internet enabled there is no way for your ISP to know what your doing offline.

Just as a suggestion, I understand money might be tight, but if thats what your purpose is. Is getting a used Playstation from amazon, Ebay, or hell a dozen different yard sales for 15$ or less really going to take a huge bite out of your wallet considering you could prolly get both games, the console, memory cards, controllers, for less than 15 dollars if you looked around hard enough.

It´s obvious he want to buy a legal copy but its pretty difficult, and 20$ for metal gear solid its too much. Metal Gear Solid is a excellent game (is actually one of my top 5 games of all time) but it last for 6 hours the first playtrough. Dont you have a friend who owns a copy dude?

1st part: i have no fucking clue how, but they called, saying i was violating copyright infringement laws, so most likely konami had the game report it or something,

as for the second part, i'm considering it, there are a lot of old games out there that i missed out on when i was younger, so in the long run it may be a good idea

If you happen to be in the market for the 3DS I believe they plan on doing a remake of the first game.

Well I presume whats happened is that an advocacy group for Konami caught and captured your IP while downloading it, (which is funny because one of the biggest sources of pirated material comes from the copywrite holders) You likely got an advocacy group seed. This is a form of entrapment. They need to prove you downloaded it, so they have to put up their own seeds to catch you in the act, but they either are going to put up an actual copy of the game to prove it, thus proliferating their own piracy, or they are putting up a false copy to look like the game file. If the game doesnt play, then it sounds like the latter of the two but that also means that youve not actually downloaded the game.

Anyway, it basically boils down they caught you WHILE downloading. If its fully downloaded and there was a hypothetical way for you to make it work, there would be absolutely no way for your ISP Konomi, or the advocacy group to know when, where, or how often you played the pirated copy. So, yes, you got a first hand lesson as to why you dont do such things.

As for getting an old console. Honestly thats what I am doing at the moment. I picked up a ps2 for 17$ and ive managed to hook it up to my PC and I am revisiting some games I didnt get the chance to play before, and one game in particular that I have been holding onto save data for years waiting to finish the third installment. So yeah, thats always a good investment, considering how cheaply you can get games for older consoles. (Bought Sonic Heroes on Amazon via Goodwill industries for .52c and its a perfect working copy)
