HBO's Game of Thrones Season 5 Date Announced

Death and political intrigue return to HBO as Game of Thrones' fifth season begins April 12.

The fifth season of HBO series Game of Thrones [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/game%20of%20thrones] will begin Sunday, April 12, HBO announced.

HBO has shown very little what fans should expect from the 10 episodes in the fifth season - not even a trailer. The show has become HBO's highest rated, passing The Sopranos last season. It is based on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, which Martin is still writing.

Game of Thrones will also be the first TV series to be shown in IMAX theaters. From January 23 to 29, 150 IMAX theaters will show the last two episodes of the fourth season [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/139306-Game-of-Thrones-New-Season-Preview-Gets-Special-IMAX-Theatrical-Engagement], "The Watchers on the Wall" and "The Children."

Also on April 12, the fourth season of Veep and the second season of Silicon Valley will air on HBO. A cable-free HBO app [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/138991-No-Cable-HBO-Subscription-Game-of-Thrones-Premiere-2015] will reportedly launch alongside the latest season of Game of Thrones.

Awww, I was hoping March.

I do wonder what they're gonna do with the chronology of the books, seeing as book 4 and the first half of book 5 happen simultaneously. I especially keep my fingers crossed for seeing Tyrion's adventures, Arya's new life, Cersei's shenanigans and Jon's stuff. Especially Tyrion and Arya, because

Dany's actually a little less, strangely.

God, I can't wait for this show to come back on. I've given up on Martin actually publishing any time soon so the show is going to have to give me the story progression I need, I guess.

Im halfway trough the last book. And right now i want Stannis to sit in the Iron Throne.... Screw Daenerys; Stannis will be a better king.
