How are people listing games between 11 and 18 gigs as "space eaters?" Are you guys kidding or what? I mean, yeah, they're big, but they aren't massive. In fact, that's a pretty average size for games these days.
Considering how Link to the Past clocks in at a half meg, and the much more recent Terraria at 22 (before map generation), it is interesting to see how much data sizes have ballooned without the games necessarily getting much better. Hell, I'd play LTTP 5 times over before half of the games listed above your post.
Yes, it's amazing that games with full 3D graphics, advanced shaders and lighting effects, full voice acting (in multiple languages), and massive soundtracks with dozens of songs somehow take up more room than A Link to the Past, because those are obviously comparable things.

i tend to have much more data held on my pc from raw lp recording footage than from anything else. most of which i recorded in the past 3 months,

have you ever tried uploading 20 gbs worth of data to a online file storage site, then have the person you're collaborating with download it on their shitty wifi USB card. that literally took more than half a week to get that part of the project done.

more on topic i used to have a 40 gb HDD as my main hard drive. i literally had all the entire orange box and KOTOR one plus a VERY VERY VERY large add on content mod leaving me with less than 5 gbs of spare space to work with.

i also used that computer with roughly the same amount of free disk space from 2009 to mid last year. yeah.
