Certainly the bits that revolve around Europe and the Middle East ;-)

Civopedia did the same for me.

Really? In bootcamp we carried M1 Garands and they weighed about 15 Pounds... M16s are Heavier... So yes, it is heavy for a CIVILIAN rifle, but a military issue one, not so much...

Which military were you in, or what rifle do you shoot, that is so much less?
What?

M1 Garand is about 10 lbs., man. M16 is lighter - specifically, M16A2 is 8.5 lbs. And most modern assault rifles tend to hover around 7.5 to 8.5 lbs. in weight. G36, FAMAS, AK-74M... Only particularly weighty one that comes to mind is a L85 if it has a SUSAT on it - and that's because of the SUSAT. The actual rifle is around 9 lbs.

Yeah, in order to get up to 15 it would have to be loaded and have an M203 or master key attached.

I played DMC3 a while ago, and I read somewhere that Dante uses Aikido. I tried learning Aikido. I failed. Horribly. Now I wanna learn CQC after playing MGS3 and 4 many many times.
lol, I'm assuming you know what CQC is?

I haven't explicitly met anyone who exhibits such idiocy, but I do feel sorry for all of you who are forced to be exposed to it.

FPS games taught me one thing though: Video games are generally (almost always) very bad for learning about firearms and such. BF2 is the closest you can get to an FPS game imitating real life guns. (And no, I didn't have any mishaps while firing any real guns either. I've fired a scoped Springfield '02 and Lee Enfield rifles without mistakes)

Regarding CQC, I only know so far that CQC (Close-Quarters Combat) revolves around pwning your enemy up-close when you can't afford to just shoot them and therefore conserve ammo that way.

Seeing as the only weapons I've fired are a revolver and a bolt action rifle (in which case I'll have to use Timesplitters: Future perfect as my example of 'virtual shooting lessons') I feel that I am in a qualified position to say the following (something I am sure everyone has easily discovered, written about and had a T-shirt printed about):

Guns in games are almost nothing like guns in reality, they have no kick in games (because you're not holding them) make nowhere near as much as much noise (need I mention DOOM 3?) and I am pretty certain that it is not physically possible to cram 100 shells into a single shotgun (Resi 4 reference for those of you keeping up).

Now, for digging up comical dirt on others...I had a friend who believed that he was an expert in forensics because he completed Condemned 2 (with perfect ratings...impressive, but it doesn't make you a detective), I dared him to try reading up on it and he gave up after 2 weeks because 'it was too hard'.

I wonder if anybody has actually flown a plane after playing MS Flight Sim X? :) :-D
A friend of mine was so convinced he could land a B747 on two engines after playing that I took him up in a Piper PA-28 and said, "Right it's all yours." Stalled after about 90 seconds.

'cuz they're light. Even .22s have a little kick to them
And they have short sight planes, and it's inherently more stable to aim a weapon with both hands, especially if they are separated by some distance. A scoped revolver with a 10" barrel or longer can be pretty accurate if you steady the barrel with your off hand (which will turn black from combustion gases, BTW.)

Personally I like light weapons, even if they do kick more, since there tends to be more carrying than shooting. My grandfather has a twelve gauge that weighs about five pounds - that'll teach you to clap with your shoulder blades. He still shoots that and his .22 and he's 96 now. And none of my rifles are quite 7 pounds.

There's just some lessons that can't be learned in the sterile game environment.
The most jarring of these, in my experience, is just how confused things can get when you throw a bunch of people into a fight (even if it's all just MILES gear) without enough organization.

Kick means absolutely nothing for the first shot.
lolwut? Maybe you aren't aware, but one of the more common mistakes made in shooting is anticipating the recoil (and the bang) and flinching before you've even shot, which dicks with your aim. It takes time and discipline to get the entire instinct of tensing up out of your system.

That's why I love my ithaca featherweight. Even thought it's a slug gun and kicks like bruce lee, you never feel the kick when you're shooting at something, you're too exited. And that thing is really light for a 12 gauge slug gun. Shooting at targets, it will hurt like a *****.

Heavier guns are also easier to accuratly get follow-up shots off with becuase of the lower recoil. If you've been shooting for years and are very experienced, recoil means nothing at any time, with any gun*.

*Ok, most any time, with most guns, or just one gun you're really familiar with

Bin-gooo.

Man, I had the privilege of watching a guy who was training for Olympic shooting compete in a local pistol meet. Watching him, you'd think he stepped out of a video game. Dead, absolutely dead shot, and a hand steadier than steel.
