For the first time in a long while I've been sleeping properly (at night, 8 hours, no medication) but for the past 3 days I've woken up with a headache on one side of my head or the other. todays lasted 5 hours, but on previous occasions would dissapate shortly after drinking some tea (couple of hours).
What do I do?

How's your neck and back? You may be sleeping badly. Do you sleep on your stomach? When you sleep on your stomach you twist your neck and can strain the muscles and make them tighten, causing strain and thus headaches. Also weird sleeping postures can put your spine and neck joints out of whack, and make them curve. This has a headache causing property in it. Its what screws me up all the time. So I go to a chiropractor and get myself sorted out! =)

I like to crack my neck side to side when I wake up in the morning to make the bad feeling go away. It's not really recommended 'cause it can hurt your joints and perhaps arthritis. So that's bad advice... FORGET THAT PARAGRAPH! :p

Drinking fluids, eating properly etc... always work too. I can't say much about tea making it go away.

Make sure you're properly hydrated. Also, if the tea had caffeine in it then that might have been what helped. Caffeine is a good remedy for many types of headaches.

It's possible that this is just your body adjusting to a different sleep cycle, and that the headaches will stop on their own after awhile.

@Panyue: I sleep on my side,is that bad? And I do forget to drink water alot. Maybe thats part of it.
@BrassButtons: you guessed right, it was Tazo wakeup tea. I'm entertaining the thought of skipping the middleman and just growing my own feverfew.

Sleeping on your side is good as long as you have a pillow that is level with your neck, so as you aren't leaning into the pillow and curving your neck. =)

Being dehydrated could definitely attribute to these headaches coming out of no where.

The reason caffeine ala Tea or Coffee help so much is because that chemical opens up your blood streams and increases blood flow. That's what helps remedy the headache. There's nothing wrong with a cup of coffee or glass of tea in the morning to fend off the headache. Just watch constant use of caffeine: After awhile your body could develop an addiction for it and you'll get headaches for the sole purpose of NOT having caffeine in your body.
