I have these currently: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHE9500-Ultra-Sound-Headphones/dp/B000G35RYK

I've had them for a while. They work fairly well as canceling noise, and the bass is better than on most earbuds. They're also pretty comfortable, even after a few hours. I frequently use my iPod as a radio (by not putting the earbuds in my ears and turning the volume up all the way) using these; the sound quality is good, and they haven't given out on me yet.

Skullcandies here. I think they are improving their manufacturing quality because the first set I got busted when I accidentally sat on them, but the second set are a bit (ok, a lot)more durable. But the big thing is the lifetime warranty. Devices that produce sound do so by causing vibration in the air. The membrane making those vibrations is going to degrade over time, and with skullcandy you should be able to replace yours when they start going bad, with the only risk being that they go out of business and aren't around to honor your warranty.

The best headphones I've ever owned are JVC Gummies. They're comfortable, have excellent volume range, they're durable, and they look cool without being overly conspicuous.

On a side note, don't get Skull Candy earbuds, they're headphones and what not are great, but their earbuds may as well be made of glass they break so easily.

Pretty much anything wth the word Sennheiser on it.

I prefer over ear to earbuds though, less sweaty and horrible. I have a set of relatively cheap PX-100's.

Radio shack brand headphones. About 12 bucks, comfy fit, adjustable volume for the headphones themselves. Definitely has my thumbs up.

Like the internals broke or did you bang them around alot? I noticed a bit of wear on mine but they still worked perfectly.

On the day after I bought them, one ear piece snapped clean off while it was in my ear. And no, I wasn't thrashing around or being rough on them (I believe I was laying in bed, reading; I didn't realize what had happened at first, only that my music had suddenly been cut off on one side). I treat my electronics with the utmost respect; I don't have enough money to constantly break stuff. :)

Luckily the store I bought them from let me exchange them for another brand.
