Basically, what the title says. Speakers are cheaper, but I am a private person, so...

Also, if I am to buy headphones, which brand should I choose? Right now I am considering Bose and Shure. Any suggestions?

Personally, I prefer headphones. I like keeping things to myself, just as you yourself eluded to as well.

For a brand, I recommend Sennheiser for some really top notch stuff.

It depends on the situation really. In my dorm room I use headphones because I don't want to be a douche (like my roommates) but at home in my own room I never use headphones.

My dad's got a pair of those. Sooo nice...

I've also personally tested the HD 650s. Best headphones I've ever sampled. It makes me wonder how fricken' awesome the HD 800s are. I wanted to test those, but they were locked behind a display case. I drool at the thought of how awesome they must be... and then I remember the price tag. Oh well, I can always hope I win the lottery some day!

I got sennheiser stereo quality headphones. They are awsome. Crank the volume and you can hear the headphones quite clearly when not wearing them... from across the room and possibly farther.

I'm going to go ahead and recommend Sennheiser as well. I'd also recommend Audio Technica, AKG, and Grado, but it really depends on your budget.

Stay away from Bose and Shure, I find that you tend to be paying for the label when it comes to them. Also, stay away from all that Beats and Skullcandy crap.

That being said,

Modding a pair of 555's will turn them into a pair of 595's.

OP, you should provide a price range because there are headphones and then there are headphones... anyway, I would go with headphones as long as you are ready to dish out some money to get a comfortable pair. These are pretty nice mid-level price headphones: http://www.headphonereviews.org/headphone/Grado/SR225

Damn. Someone already recommended NOT Beats.

Other than that, I can provide no other useful information.

Thanks guys. I will see about getting Sennheiser headphones. The prices seem to be reasonable and I am seeing a lot of positive reviews.

I prefer speakers, however keeping quiet around roomates can be rather annoying.

I don't see why you can't keep both, and switch when it's appropriate. you can get cheap pairs of headphones anywhere.

Speakers for full game enjoying experience. Wish I had some decent ones though... my poor tv, I don't want to ruin its own speakers by playing too loudly.

And headphones for music most of the time. Usually because I'm travelling a lot when I've actually got music playing :)

Bose are excellent - something you can trust too :)
