I'm looking at getting some new headphones, due to my old ones finally breaking after 4 years, but am not sure which to get.
I've got a fairly low budget (£30 - £50), but am looking for something with above average sound quality, and comfortable.

Any suggestions welcome :D

EDIT: Am looking for on ear headphones, rather than in ear ;)

I may as well point you in this direction :)

EDIT: I sorted the above link by price, so the in-ear ones will mostly appear first. The list does include the over-ear types too.

To give some idea, i've been looking at these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-HTX7E-C-Monitor-Headphones-Cream/dp/B000NA1SYO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1285018175&sr=1-1)

I'm not a serious music listener, just for walking around town with and listening to the iPod
Can anybody suggest anything better within the price range?

Well I use Sony MDR-ED21LP in-ear earphones. They have great sound quality, are small, and fit in your ear very comfortably. I tried a more expensive Philips model, but they didn't match the sound quality of these and I just bought another set.

I got a pair of noise canceling Goldring headphones for £50 reduced from £150 on play.com. they work a treat, especially for the price.

edit: here they are
http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/8240767/Goldring-NS1000-Active-Noise-Reduction-Cancelling-Headphones/Product.html

the link only seems to work if you open in new tab

they are also on-ear

I agree. My Bose stereo headphones without noise cancellation work just as well as my buddy's with NC.

I may have missed the point but don't they block incoming noise.
They also block your noise from filling your surrounding area. Kind of like a solid oak door. It's still a solid oak door, whether you're on the outside or the inside!

I've got a pair of Phillips in ear ones with an over ear bit so they don't fall out. I recomend that kind, they're great if you do a lot of running and stuff.

Well, I don't listen to my music at full volume so still seems like an added cost I wont use.

Beg to differ, mine work really quite well. They even make the outside world seem quieter when there's nothing playing.

I'll admit mine broke so I may be bias. I had to rewire them and I think I lost stereo sound.

Frankly I always go for something cheap, usually spend around 7-12 euros on them or so (that's a whole headset actually, not just headphones). The sound's fine, they last a decent deal of time and when they break, it's cheap enough to buy new ones - I replace them once every 6 months or so and it's usually when the mic dies, so assuming I only cared about headphones part, they could last a good year or more on average.
