So why exactly would they bother denying review copies if the game is awesome? It's not like supply was low, or there is a huge plot to spoil...is there?
The official reason was that the online competitive aspect and stage building (also online) were integral parts of the experience as well as the single player so without full online access, the full experience couldn't be judged and rated.

Sounds like a bunch of bullshit corporate language to me though. I almost preordered it via Green Man Gaming but after hearing around the lack of review copies, I decided to lay in the cut.

Thanks man! I'll check it out! Watching Jim Sterling's impressions of it and it looks pretty bad ass. Once the theme song ended with the *click clack* of the shottie, I felt a twinge of regret at not preordering lol

While it is cheaper, there's probably a very nefarious reason why it's cheaper.
Like, "The key may have been obtained in a not so legal way so the devs may not see a single penny of that money." cheaper. :p

EDIT: Seriously, G2A are selling it for ?23. That's in no way legally obtained for that deep of a launch discount. :p

Oh, don't get me wrong, the game itself is legal and will work just fine.

But there's no way in hell thse keys were purchased or obtained legally by the sellers.
Selling a BRAND NEW GAME for ?23 that retails at ?40? The devs of DOOM wouldn't do that, not on one of the bigger releases of the year. :p

There's definitely shady shit going on, but games do sell for different prices around the world. In India for example a lot of AAA games retail for the equivalent of $15 US. I'm not saying it's not a grey area, or that to actually support a developer you should buy through proper channels though. If the developer is getting anything from key sellers it's gotta be almost nil.

Anyway, legal? Probably. Shady? Absolutely.

I'm not surprised. Some users expressed negative feedback during the beta on Steam.

The multiplayer beta which is developed by a different studio and is very different from the singleplayer.

If you judge the entire game because of the multiplayer beta you're an idiot*.

I feel Bethesda didn't seem to be confident enough on their singleplayer campaign, and after the beta's reception they wanted to avoid low scores before game release (I'm not sure if their fears were justified). Personally I'm more of a singleplayer gamer; so no offence taken.

Picked it up for 35 bucks at that cd key joint. Tried it out for a little bit and so far it seems pretty fun. It's a straight up arena shooter that plays smooth as silk. Once I'm done with work I'll jump into it more and post some updated impressions but as it stands, I definitely feel it's worth what I payed.

Don't give a frak about multiplayer tho. That ain't what I go to Doom for.

Weird thing is that the glory kills aren't really a nuisance as I thought in fact they are quite fun

Other FPS developers should take note how to make a level design. this game even make shadow warrior a consolized game because that game include aim down the sight and console sprint where you cant shoot while sprint.

I preordered it and have been playing it since release, and it is AWESOME! I love this game so much, I just wish it was like DOOM 3 in certain ways

Hmmm, in what way? I thought something along those lines but more so about the creep factor. My first experience with doom was with the playstation version and it's creepier soundtrack. It seemed to me that Doom 3 and Doom 64 keep that creep vibe going with their soundtracks as well. Its really hard for me to play it with the original ost and it's bad-assness unless I'm rocking one of those brutal doom mods.

I've found myself cutting the music off completely and playing with the toons from this ost in the background and it increased my enjoyment exponentially.

Seems like the pre-order crowd dodged a bullet there.
Or maybe some of us knew going in that the game was going to be awesome (insider info, unbiased analysis of the beta, and early insider impressions are wonderful), tried telling everyone that the game was going to be awesome, but were shot down by jaded cynics who insisted we were nothing more than ignorant, blind fanboys. That we were only hoping the game would be good to satiate some nostalgic urge.

But you know what? The game is fucking awesome, and I have no qualms with rubbing that in the naysayers faces.

Vindication feels good.
