1. Acquire (emotional) scars.
2. Ask random people if they want to know how you get them. (As in, "Wanna know how I got these scars?")
3. Keep nothing but knives and lint in your pocket.
4. Goddamn Batman.

I was asking myself the same question as OP a month ago, 8:30am-5pm @Uni + 6pm-12am @work seems to do the trick.
You women creatures are evil, ya know that?

Depends on the heartache.
Different reactions and actions depending on what type of heartache.

Usually though, I respond with overwhelming sadness equaling vast amounts of typical sad girly behaviour.

Example; Dido's Life For Rent album becomes my new best friend and I get myself acquainted with large cartons of mint chocolate chip ice cream and Sex and the City reruns.

I'm a very independant person, so sealing myself away from humanity for a couple days tends to do the trick.

if not, intense video gaming, web surfing, music and eye strain definitely will cleanse my mind of the impurities.

Well, I usually go for a drive or try swinging my sword around a bit (I have a wooden Katana called a Kendo Stick that I use to practice sword fighting, it has a pretty good heft and takes some real finesse to control if you swing it like you mean it...). Getting drunk ALWAYS helps clear the head... Good music while doing any of the above mentioned is even better. One time I got drunk and talked to my car... You wouldn't understand and I don't feel like explaining it, to be honest... VERY long story.

Long walks are nice as well, as is getting out there and dipping the ol' wick, if you know what I mean. I don't do casual sex, but I have an ex I occasionally sleep with whom I feel no attachment to anymore.

Other than that, time is usually required. All you can do is wait

Wow, okay, not at all what you do. If this was a joke, it's not funny. Cutting and other acts of suicide are not at all a funny matter.

If I am honest this is how I got over my last ex

Masturbate when I cry
Play GTA and kill literally every female I see
Get drunk at a party
Proceed to start a fight with 2 people and then been taken home drunk and cry my eyes out. When I got home I put my pj bottoms on my head and vice versa for my top then fell asleep in the bathtub. Then in the morning wonder why I am in the bath tub and I taste vomit an it's because I was sick on my bed and according to my mum I said I did it because "she slept there"

So yeah...

well, the part of you that died during this horrible heartache, was the weak part... NOW YOU ARE STRONGER!
I like this guy.

How did I deal with heartache? I didn't deal with it very well the first time it rolled around...but that was after a 3 year relationship ending horribly.

I just tried to pick up the pieces and move on. Tried to think about her as least as possible and just do stuff to keep my mind from dwelling on the past. I also looked to this forum for help since I was in a really dark place a few months after. Perseverance mostly though. Just gotta keep strong.

Hmmm, what? Last time, in general? Whew.

I've;
got mad
got drunk
got even
got depressed
distracted myself
made amends
apologised
etc. etc.

Just try to deal with it constructively. The alternate option isn't really much of an option.

get a new girl? that's what i'm trying out. i was with my ex 2.5 years and we were engaged and she's the first i've fallen in love with, so i'm not really sure if i'm going about this the right way or not.

most of these guys don't know what they are talking about... time and activity does not help, you just need to man up, watch some rocky, or like airplanedude550 said, drink JD... look at some courage wolf(or insanity wolf, if thats your thing), the woman is the one missing out bro, your a legend and you know it ;)
After all, that's what i feel like though. i treated her like gold, so she's the unlucky one. This other girl likes me already so maybe this will work out.

As soon as I read the title of this thread "Heartache by the Numbers" from the New Vegas soundtrack started playing in my head.

OT: The internet is a great place to forget one's troubles. I'd recommend reddit.

Personally, I drink Jack Daniels until I pass out, then I move on with my life. (after the post-heartache hangover, that is)
LOL

No really, find music that sets your heart right, first thing you should listen to is 24/7 breakup mushy music(if it's a breakup) and after a few days your mind will tell you thats enough, work into some halfsap/halfcheerful music and in no time at all you will be on top of the world.

Best advice though, never stop smiling.

Damn Joker ninja!

I usually stop functioning for a while, become even more depressed than I normally am (just below the scale of "normal") and focus on nothing than how much it hurts. And I haven't even had a girlfriend yet, all the heartache I have suffered has been girls I like not liking me/liking someone else more. I don't think I should have a girlfriend before I can work out this depression-thing, or I think I might kill myself when we break up...
Only Kidding! :D

It depends on my mood and the weather. I will call friends and see if they can come over, listen to music, game, or if it's warm enough, I will go shooting or for a drive. Or you could always find something to make ya laugh, like my cap for this post was Aillona lipschitz...

Hmmm. I don't really feel eligible to answer this question, as I am only 16.
However, there have been 2 occasions when I suppose I have been worthy of having 'heartache'. First is when my Grandmother died, second (and significantly less important) my girlfriend of about a year - 1.5 years broke up with me. I didn't cry, or feel too sad, on either occasion. I was always distanced from my grandmother, having only met her a few times in my short life, and with my girlfriend, well, nothing really lost when you think about it. Just back to square 1, really, and if I was happy back then why not now? So I guess I don't have to deal with heartache because I just don;t get it.
