Will I get hated for going with the mainstream? We'll find out!

Lamb of God's Wrath has my vote. I don't dig the more brutal death growls - Randy Blythe's is pretty much perfect for my tastes.

Actual heaviest album of the decade as in damn thats heavy

Pig Destroyer - Prowler In The Yard

And countless others.
Good choice, but I think their new stuff would be even heavier, really. Terrifyer and Phantom limb are just ridiculous!
My favourite Pig destroyer song:

Strapping Young Lads albums City and Alien are the two heaviest and most intense albums i have ever heard. listen for yourself if you do not believe me. though i can not really say which of the two is the heaviest.

i would say that In Flames newer albums range from decent to outright bad. There old material are much better if you ask me.
I fucking love city, why in God's name didn't I put that song down here?! The breakdown in that is literally the heaviest thing I've ever heard. I could go on about how much I love Devin townsend all day...

And you like old in flames? [sub]*cough*the good in flames*cough*[/sub]

I think you and me will get on just fine.

Well in terms of Heaviest then you want black metal which is heavier than pretty much everything else in existence, quite often not as talented as other forms of metal but still very heavy. So I'll have to go with Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam by Gorgoroth, Sons of Northern Darkness by Immortal or Plague Angel by Marduk.

Heavy is hard to pin down because it can mean different things to defferent people. Some say speed, some say bass, some say screaming, etc... These are the heaviest albums I bought in this decade anyway:

Machine Head - The Blackening
Meshuggah - Obzen
Beneath The Massacre - Dystopia

I also want to say Dillinger Escape Plan's Calculating Infinity, but it was a couple of months too early. Still, check it out if you haven't heard.

I've gotta few bands to throw into the mix.

Darkest Hour's albums "Hidden Hands of A Sadist Nation" and "Deliver Us" come to mind. Nice mix of heavy and melodic.

And one of my personal favorites, Becoming the Archetype. The biggest slap in the face about these heavy motherfuckers... They're a christian band. Don't judge before you listen though. Trust me, they're worth the time if you're looking for pure, in your face, heavy shit. Saw them live, dude was screaming/singing over the 500+ crowd without a microphone. They're the real deal.

No, the song I was talking about was the one I cut from your quote; of course I know City is the name of the album
DO NOT QUESTION MY KNOWLEDGE OF DEVIN TOWNSEND.

I agree with that one dude about Electric Wizard, any of their albums can be constituted as heavy.
My picks would be Sleep's Dopesmoker album, a few albums by either Om or High on Fire, Sunn 0))) since they sound just evil, and maybe these Japanese bands calle Boris and Corrupted.

Most "heavy" music I've heard since the mid 90's sounds the same.
But fans swear their favorite band is the heaviest.

Try The Locust [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3ZaX3RdBrA].
My vote is for their album New Erections.
its not for everyone. Crazier than most people like.
Wow. This is the first time I've heard of them, and they sound freaking awesome.
'tis heavy.
Thanks!

Good choice... the only thing I can think of that might top that in terms of heaviness would be Agoraphobic Nosebleed's Bestial Machinery.
Ahh I always hear the name Agoraphobic Nosebleed but can't remember them... Bout time I gave 'em a look-see.

I first heard of the Locust when they opened for Andrew WK. In protest of the ticket prices they played crazy static for 30 minutes and started a konga line. the only word I can use to describe them is 'absurd'.

I really like Metal, but this constant search for "Heavy", "Metal" and "Brutality" is missing the point completely. Sure they may be intrinsic elements of the genre, but that's not the point of metal, like all music, it should tell a story, have meaning and value beyond the simplistic meanings of "Brutality".
I agree to an extent, but let the people find their limits. All the longtime metalheads I know wanted something harder, faster, and heavier at one point. Most of them find out somewhere around grindcore or death/black metal that a lot of the slower stuff they started on has more lasting appeal for them.

There are extreme bands that have meaning, and tell stories. I can understand not really seeing that, as the vast majority doesn't care what their lyrical themes are as long as the bass drum is pounding, but don't let fool you. Well rounded musicians exist in extreme metal. I'm not really going to address your point on telling a story, as many albums/songs in extreme metal do. If you want a GOOD story, you may want to try more progressive stuff like Ayreon/Avantasia/Opeth.

OT: I could search for the most abrasive electronic music I could find and link to it. I won't, however, as it's clear that's not what you actually want.

Electric Wizard has already been posted, and is a fantastic band with a heavy sound to 'em.
Bathory are first wave black metal, and quite fun to listen to.
Cynic is amazing. Altogether amazing. For brutality, their first album (Focus)is what you'd want.
Athiest is like focus-era Cynic, but in my opinion slightly heavier with slightly more awesome bass.
Death. Listen to them
Skeltonwich are great. I'm just discovering them, as I get to see them at a festival on saturday.
Slayer. Testament. Kreator. Thrash metal at it's heaviest.
Napalm Death and Dying Fetus are great grindcore. I'd recommend having an album on hand for impromptu headbaning.
The Agonist is the only metalcore band I've ever liked very much. Having recently seen them, I can officially say their guitarist is good at sweep picking. Really good.
Amorphis are great. I'd go into more detail, but I doubt anybody is actually going to real this far into the post.

I think I'll stop typing now.

I did go through this already, but ( to me at least) heavy is just a different word for good. I can't say that in the title because I'm not in the mood for other music. Also listen to nevermore, your faith in me has been restored.
