Sorry. I just had to add Unreal Engine 4 to the title as I am guessing most people on this site have never heard of Heavy Gear but they have heard of the Unreal 4 Engine (which this game uses and can be seen in real time in the trailer) and this game really needs some traffic.

From the latest Gear Up issue http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/113116/Gear-Up-Issue-6 the game will be a PC exclusive single player and multiplayer game being created by Stompy Bot Productions and MekTek that takes place primarily in the gladiatorial combat arenas of Tera Nova.

For a company named Stomp Bot Productions that bot wasn't particularly stompy, instead it was like a big kid with those annoying shoes with the wheels on the back that were a fad for awhile. Not exactly the best first impression.

Other than that not really much to say. Too little info to really judge.

I have no idea what logic you are going by. The companies name is not indicative of the actual 20 year old Heavy Gear universe and the function of its titular combat vehicles.

Those are called SMS, Secondary Movement System. It is supposed to give the gear increased speed at the cost of maneuverability. A pretty common thing in anime to sidestep animation costs and dare I say originality however with Gears it does not allow zero friction maneuvers as seen otherwise.

Actually I remember Heavy gear very well, it came out during my senoir year of high school I think and our computer programming class had after school multiplayer matches all the time. The first one was pretty good but if I con critisize the singleplayer at all its that I really wanted to play the south instead of the north and that the south got demonized pretty hard. In multiplayer my team always played the south.

The second game I tried but didnt end up buying because it was horrible. I dont know what happened with the series after that though.

I also remember briefly looking at the table top game but never found players for it

Anyway, I cant really say anything. It wasnt a very good teaser trailer. If its less like the second one Ill probably take a good look at it but Im not to excited right now. We do need more mech games and heavy gear was one of the better ones IMO (in fact I liked it more then mechwarrior)

What about it was so horrible? I still own both games but could never get into the first one. Personally to me it felt like a clunky Mechwarrior 2.

Its been awhile but I recall the crawling mechanics and the way radar worked to be my chief reasons for disliking it. I played the first level to completion and I recall thinking "this isnt what I want out of a heavy gear game." Heavy gear was about riding around in big stompy, heavily armed mechs and Heavy gear 2 just wasnt that

Hmmmm, one of the chief reasons I liked the second game. It added an optional stealth mechanic with enemies who could not immediately spot you when you began to attack them if you did not over-exert your on-board stealth systems and counter measures.

Different strokes then. Its just not what I want out of a heavy gear game

Well I would like to see another one of these especially with SP but sofar we only got one not very good cinematic, so I'll hold off my enthusiasm for the real deal if we ever get to see it.

Heavy Gear 2 is tied with Mechwarrior 3 for my favorite mech game.
Blew my mind first time I fought in space. Tons of weapons and gears.
Had a lot of good times with it. I still have the disc, but havn't been able to get it to work on anything modern.

As for this new one, looks good but graphics are a bottom of the pile concern for me in a mech sim. I'd prefer if it wasn't duelling focused, but for a crowdfunded game, it's a good way to keep the minimum cost relativly low.
I think I should be happy with it as long as they bring back the Kodiak, twas my favorite campaign gear.

As did your OP. When I saw the title I was thinking "couldn't possibly be the same Heavy Gear".
Thankfully I like a nice suprise from time to time.
Reading through the stretch goals, I don't know if my beloved Kodiak will make it in. One is for "Vintage Gear Designs".

As for MechWarrior 3, its my standard for giant robot combat in the "big as buildings" style.
I played that free version of MechWarrior 4, but its just not the same.

Oh man, the nostalgia. I used to watch the Heavy Gear TV show when I was a lot younger! I do enjoy mech games (though I suck at them); Armored Core in particular. Unreal Engine 4 looks to be shaping up brilliantly. I just hope that this game will be as good as the videos make it look.
