It's a ps3 exclusive and always has been, so if you didn't have a ps3 and yet hyped yourself up for this game then...yeah. Anyway, I have a ps3 and I'm not interested in this game in the least. It just seems boring according to the dtoid preview I caught wind of.

yeah, no.
I find it sad how many people trivialize Heavy Rain's interactivity-ness-ess without actually looking beyond the interactivity.

Heavy Rain is trying to get you to care about the characters, and while brushing your characters teeth or checking the watch for time doesn't seem all that fascinating, each action brings you one step closer to being the character. Every little action, every little word, is designed to bring you closer to the character to the point where you want what's best for them, you know what makes them tick, you know their desires and how to achieve them.
I can tell you more about how I feel about this game when it's out, but right now I don't find brushing teeth or checking the time to be an enjoyable way to develop feelings for a character. After all, there are other ways to get me to care about a character that are much more fun and interesting. For example, all they had to do to get me to care about Gordon Freeman was to make him a mute so I could impose myself upon him. I care about Kratos because he is an interesting character that has a story to him that actually keeps me coming back to figure out how he will get his revenge. If Kratos dies in anything but a blaze of glory I will be pissed.

You know what's amazing about both of those games, they made me care about the characters while still letting me have fun with the game. I'm not saying every game has to have giant explosions and blood to be good, but having a way to keep me interested would be wonderful. Having me constantly do the main characters daily chores is not interesting. I don't care if it draws me closer to the character, because I know there are better ways to do that.

Obviously I'm extremely excited for Heavy Rain, it looks like a huge breakthrough for storytelling in games and mature themes. Things like child death, home invasion, drug addiction/abuse, depression, murder, rape, etc... are tackled in this game, and while, yes, the majority of it may seem like nothing but QTEs, that's just one step towards making games all the more interactive.
My main problem is that it is mostly QTEs. We're talking about video games here, the medium provides you a ton of ways to tell a story that is specific to the medium, but I get the odd feeling that this is going to be more of a movie than a game...or at least a choose your own adventure book.

Except the game isn't realistic. From what I've seen, the animations in the game look incredibly clunky and unnatural. That's going to kill any possible immersion, much like how spending any lengthy period of time around anyone in a S.T.A.L.K.E.R game also kills immersion.

The problem is, both those games are complete fantasy. Heavy Rain is heavily grounded in reality (hopefully it will stay that way, from what I've read about Fahrenhiet in the last half), and not only that but it's heavily centered around choice that can form a completely different character within the character if that makes sense.

In Half-Life, Gordon is mute, but that's it. He's just one centered character that you play as, going along the ride. Same thing with Kratos, he's him, not you. As badass as Kratos is, you aren't him, you just control him in a sense that all you can do with him is dismember centaurs. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, I'm as excited for God of War 3 as I am for Heavy Rain, but they are two different forms of interactivity.

With Heavy Rain, every little thing brings you closer to the character, so much so that you actually become them. With one of the characters, you choose to give your kid an apple instead of chips for a snack, not because it said "Give him the apple...OR THE CHIPS!" but because you felt the need to give him something healthy. Impose your own sense of parental discipline on him, let him watch TV or force him to go to bed early.

These choices, these minute choices, build up the character more and more until the end where everything you've done up to that point will have the ultimate effect. Maybe by not brushing your teeth, your boss thinks "P.U, you smell" and that in turn has a butterfly effect on the future. Who knows what could happen? Heavy Rain also experiments in that effect, that one action can lead to 10 more consequences, good or bad.

It's very hard to really do that with Kratos, as the most choice you really have with him is "Do I upgrade the Blades first, or the Cestus'?" and "Disembowel or not Disembowel?" I'm not saying it's not possible, though from the situations in Half-Life and God of War, it's extremely unlikely.

But, as I said before, those games make you care about the characters in a different way. And I don't like the way you said "while still letting me have fun," as you haven't played Heavy Rain to really tell if it's "fun" or not. Granted, I haven't played Heavy Rain either, and I could be completely wrong about it, but at least keep an open mind in it.

My main problem is that it is mostly QTEs. We're talking about video games here, the medium provides you a ton of ways to tell a story that is specific to the medium, but I get the odd feeling that this is going to be more of a movie than a game...or at least a choose your own adventure book.
I'm going to go all philosophical here and say "What really constitutes as a 'game'"?

What's the real problem with having a game gravitate towards a "movie" than a "game"? I don't see any other game provide this much interactivity, "movie" or not, within the confines of it being defined as a "game". Heavy Rain has been detailed as a choose your own adventure book before, and I don't see why it shouldn't be classified as that.

I don't know how Heavy Rain will turn out, I could be completely wrong about it and it could suck donkey nuts, who knows. But at least try to keep an open mind when looking into Heavy Rain. It's not for everyone, of course, but damnit not everyone has to be against it just because you brush your teeth in it.

Yes, I'm disappointed as hell.

I loved Fahrenheit and I would love this game too. Oh well, there's ton of other amazing games coming out next year, including Mass Effect 2, WHICH ISN'T ON PS3 HAR HAR.

To be honest it looks meh.

Interactive movie sounds like lots of QTEs.

(And it sounds pretentious...)

Anyone else really disappointed that Heavy Rain isn't on the PC?
MEMEMEMEMEMEME!!!!!

DAMN YOU QUANTIC DREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, now that's out of the way, you can probably tell my real opinion. As an Xbox 360 gamer, I own several Xbox exclusive titles. And even despite that, I think exclusive titles are one of the worst things about the games industry right now. I can't get Heavy Rain simply because I refuse to pay sony £200 or thereabouts of my own money just to play one game that I want, i.e. Heavy Rain. And as a PC gamer too, I'm extremely annoyed that it won't be on PC. Why, though? Quantic Dream had no problems porting Farenheit, and making it multi-platform, so why not Heavy Rain too? And don't any PS3 fantards give me that usual crap about how it's 'too powerful' for anything other than the PS3. I'd be glad to sacrifice great sound and graphics for this game, and I'd personally be more than happy to have it come on ten disks if it means I'm playing what will probably prove to be a brilliant game. You know what I think? Quantic Dream have sold out to Sony, and that's all...

Well... It's made by Quantum Dream, which simultaneously makes me want to buy it, and kill it. I mean, Fahrenheit was a fucking amazing game, up until the point where it became the worst game I've ever played. So... yeah. I'm not going to cry over it not being on PC, but I might give it a look-see for the PS3.

Funny that in 20 some odd years people still haven't grasped the idea of "console exclusive".

I'm a bit disapointed it's not on PC I suppose, but I'm okay with it.

On the plus side, it's largely quicktime events, so no loss for the PC market there.
On the Neg side, it's just another instance of Sony being total dicks.

I'll say what I said before, buy the damn hardware or piss off.

Harsh but true.

Rationalize how "Quantic Dream are sell outs!" or "It could totally work on 360 [sup]if you basically strip it down to a worse game[/sup]" as much as you want, complaining will bring nothing to the table and just makes you sound like a self-entitled brat on top of a pitiful excuse to boot.

As much as I want Mass Effect 2 or L4D2 to go to PS3, I can't do anything about it. I don't go "DAMN YOU BIOWAAAAAARRRRRRREEEE" and say how "They have no problem putting Dragon Age:Origins on PS3, why not ME2?!?!". As much as VALVe ticks me off sometimes, I either have to get a 360 or a good enough PC to play those games. No amount of complaining or moaning will change that. You don't see me claiming that Bioware or VALVe are "sellouts", and I'm the freakin' #1 Sony "fantard" on this site! It's a damn shame how you've resorted to the very excuse you don't want others to use on you.

Personally, I think that if you have to essentially make the game worse to port on to other platforms, it's not worth porting. That's just my little opinion-ittle there.

I'm sorry if I came on harsh, but I am not sorry for your predicament. If you want to play Heavy Rain that badly, buy a PS3 or steal[/i] borrow a friends to play it.

It's a PS3 exclusive that focuses a lot on quick-time events. How would that implement good on a PC? Are you just disappointed because it's a good looking game? Because that is probably the only reason a PC-gamer would want it on the PC, seeing as how the gameplay is not PC-friendly.
Prince of Persia. The had quick time events up the ass and I still enjoyed it.
Might be because my mouse has 5 buttons. But heavy rain wasn't on the Xbox360 either, the developers had their reasons to keep it a Ps3 exclusive.
I think it was because of the disc space. MGS4 used all of the Blu ray game disc, and this ones supposed to have better graphics. I think that the production costs would be too high if they made it for the 360 or pc. That, and Sony don't like sharing games with Microsoft. Fact.

Whats heavy rain? Its raining outside but not on my pc..
I don't even...
It was a joke. But I seriously dont know what Heavy Rain is.
It's a PS3 exclusive that is said to have revolutionary graphics for a console.
Which is PRECISELY why it's not on PC.
No, it's not on PC because of the disc space. This is going to use a lot of space on the Blu ray, it would be too much for a PC unless you had one with a lot of memory.

"It's a PS3 exclusive that is said to have revolutionary graphics for a console."

Note that phrase, "For a Console", by the standards of upto date Pc graphics that is not exactly revolutionary.

Fuck that, I'd rather that they be honest and not do a PC version than give us a shit port. Single platform exclusives? fine. I don't mind. PC has S.T.A.L.K.E.R, remember?
This is true
