Help Finding Co op games with Campaign!

Holy crap, why is it so hard to find decent co op games recently?

To be fair, I've probably played most of them.
Borderlands
Dead Island
Dying Light
Left for Dead
Resident Evil
Dead Rising
Saints Row

So...maybe there are more than I give credit, but it's become difficult for me to find more.

I'm also kind of tired of vague advertising for games that claim to have "co-op", but only for short, meaningless side missions that you're expected to do over and over again with no connection to each other.

Could I get some suggestions on games that have co-op on the PC?

I'm looking in particular either first/third person shooters, or at least something with action.
RPGs are fine, but refrain from recommending games like Divinity: Original Sin or anything that's particularly "slow". I get bored very easily playing those kinds of games in co-op.

I'm also looking for games that have an actual co-op campaign or story.

The age of the game doesn't matter as long as it's relatively easy to get running on modern hardware.

The original Gears of War is available on PC and the campaign is two player co-op. It does however require Games for Windows LIVE, not something I've ever had great problems with but many seem to loathe it, and new copies tend to be somewhat on the expensive side as you can't get it digitally any longer. The game runs fine with my i5-4460 and GTX970.

Zombie Army Trilogy is pretty fun, it's in the Left for Dead four player co-op style. When things get hectic you really do need to rely on your team. A minus for me is that you don't get bots for any missing human players, which can make things very difficult if you can't get a full team together.

That's all that springs to mind I'm afraid, I'm more of a solo player myself and you've already mentioned my other suggestions.

Well, I don't know if you mean online or offline. So.

Halo. Offline for 1-4. (Reach and ODST) Online only for 5.
Lost Planet 2. Dunno what you'd think about the story, but it's all co-op campaign for what story there is.
Ghost Recon Future Soldier has co-op campaign, as well as a lot of other Clancy games, from Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 and 2, to Splinter Cell Conviction and Blacklist. (Both are smaller side campaigns, but have a story to tell that link to each other.)
I believe Call of Duty Black Ops 3 has co-op, but I don't know for sure. I think it's a campaign, but i haven't played it so I can't say.
Dead Space 3 has the full campaign you can play in co-op, and a pretty cool co-op only story.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 has a co-op mode for its campaign. Too bad it's also the weakest entry in the trilogy.

If you want a strategy co-op game, the Mental Omega mod for Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge has a co-op campaign.

Probably not 'Action-y' enough, but Portal 2 has a co-op campaign

There was also those Army of Two (I think? Something like that) games that might fit what you are looking for, but they weren't overly well received from memory

Helldivers is pretty fun, though it does turn into a grind of more or less the same procedurally generated missions to level up and unlock stuff so you can do it all over again at a higher difficulty.

Diablo and the million clones it has all have some manner of coop.

I never tried Dead Space 3's coop, but I think it is mostly coop? All I know is that it has some coop exclusive areas, which kinda annoyed me.

There's always Dark Souls. The first is a pain in the arse to get matched up with your pals. Never played the second. The third has a password matching feature to ensure you get who you want, unless your password is super generic. It isn't like super fluid coop, since after getting a friend to help you clear an area - you gotta do it again on his side for both games to keep pace. And you can only coop uncleared areas.

Serious Sam 3: BFE is comparable to DOOM 4 with up to 16 player campaign co-op (I wish i had enough friends for that). Tons of action, a little light on story but it's there. Not very graphically intensive.
Great game to co-op.

Here is a WEIRDER option that I still consider co-op-ish. There are questlines and a path to follow, and quite an indepth and cool story, but you can't really call it a "campaign"
-Warframe
It's more of an online kind of thing but extremely unique in what it does.
It's essentially parkour space ninjas with moddable guns and weapons. Action can be very fast paced depending if you want to kill everything or just search every locker for loot (Looting is not mandatory and often ignored)
You can make a party of up to four and go through the missions and bosses together. Later you start buying new weapons, finding and upgrading mods, and turning your weapons into personalized killing machines.
Classes (Warframes) are like weapons in that they need to be found, built, and leveled+upgraded.
(Personally I love going with the most melee focused build and dashing 20mph tearing through enemies)
There are graphical settings, but Warframe is pretty intense on higher settings.

CONS
-Building things takes real world time (It isnt as bad as it sounds, trust me). Story and progression items never take any longer than a minute, but building new weapons takes 24 hours and a new Warframe takes 72 hours.
-Weapon and Warframe slots are quite limited without the premium currency (again, not as bad as it sounds)
-Really big download
-Can be grindy near the end

PROS
-IT'S FREE
-4 Player parties and private lobbies
-Fast and customizable gameplay
-Lots of things to do. The wait times on weapons and warframes never feel prohibitive.
-You start out with some free premium currency to buy some extra warframe/weapon slots
-Your weapons and warframes can be trashed to make space for new ones. Theres no reason to pack-rat unless you want to.
-Premium currency can be traded with players
-Seriously, its free. If you havent played it and you have nothing else to do, give it a try.
-The game teaches you guns first, but melee is a very viable option with the right Warframes.
